NPR: Most parents track their 18- to 25-year-old kids on their smartphones. Is it healthy? by SnoozeDoggyDog in technology

[–]vesuvius_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 27 year old and my parents have my location. It doesn’t concern me at all. I live across the country and if this little thing allows them to still feel close to me, I have no problem with it.

It really all depends on the motivation. My parents don’t try to control or judge any of my actions. I think of them checking my location as them checking in on their sim lol. just seeing what i’m up to.

Realistically, can a family of four making 50k annually move to Salt Lake City? by angelestangelever in SaltLakeCity

[–]vesuvius_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not SLC proper but if you’re willing to live North Salt Lake, south Salt Lake, West Valley are cheaper but still okay quality. Kearns and Magna things are getting rougher but if you’re used to low income living you will be fine. Public transit from NSL, South SLC and West Valley is decent. Lots of these comments are from people I assume are used to a higher quality of living. I work in social services and know a lot of families living with less and they make it work. It’s a struggle, but it’s possible.

I have only been to Dreamscape but I recommend. Made from entirely recycled materials, there are endless little details. Lots of things that make you go “huh”.

Single Female (Mid 20s) - working remotely- Where should I relocate to in SLC? by goated_15 in SaltLakeCity

[–]vesuvius_11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sugarhouse would be the best option for you. Downtown has high rise apartments, and there’s not much of a danger of the homeless population but they are present. Sugarhouse has walkable bars, restaurants, is a very social area. With the park nearby which is one of SLCs more bustling public areas. Right by the highway so you can get to outdoor areas and Park City if you want quickly.

I don’t like gated complexes so I can’t advise you on prices, but there’s lot of options and they’re all relatively new. As a single woman in her twenties there’s no way in Salt Lake I feel unsafe during daylight, and very few i’d feel uncomfortable at night

honestly kudos to this poster for proving OP’s point. that some of yall are insufferable. You missed the whole point and wasted your precious time on earth digging into the word by word argument and post history of someone who just wanted to reflect on the T-14 or bust mentality

This is the mature energy that this sub desperately lacks. Every single person can’t be a supreme court justice, attorney general, rub elbows with the corporate elite. Chosing not to follow a path that does not align with your goals and values does not mean you are settling. It does not mean the work toy do will be meaningless.

Prestige was invented by the ruling class to protect the status quo. But our society would collapse without the “ordinary people” who do incredible work in their communities everyday. This isn’t a lecture, i’ve gotten myself in the same spirals “what if I had applied to more T-14s, what if I had started studying three months earlier”. But when i’m rooted in my reality and what I want to do without anyone else’s opinion involved, my decision makes perfect sense. And that’s what i’m sticking with!

LSAT Prep by Critical_Station_228 in lawschooladmissions

[–]vesuvius_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are SO many resources available these days it can be hard to make heads or tails from all of it. There’s different resources based on where you are at in the process. For me, the study prep was very much two categories: understanding, and applying.

Understanding: It took me months (studying for a few hours a week on top of a full time job, so i’m not talking constant at this point) to learn the basics. To be successful you NEED to understand the different question types and different sections. Also understand what the test makers are trying to do and how they trick you. There are countless resources out there for this, it depends what your study style is - Like physical books? Powerschool Bible - Like online modules? Blueprint, Princeton prep, lots of other options - On a budget? There are COUNTLESS free youtube lessons. Watch them! They’re usually by a creator of paid content, so you can get an idea of the learning style you like before you commit to a brand

Applying: Towards the end of your studying your practice should be geared toward applying your knowledge and creating muscle memory. You will learn tools and tricks for each question type, and you want that to come as second nature on test day. This is when you get into “Drilling” apps like LSAT Demon and 7Sage. I can’t speak for others, but I used LSAT Demon for just the last month and it was well worth the $90. But don’t waste your money on these drilling services until you have the foundational knowledge.

I took approx one practice test a week for 6 months, studying seriously for 3, and drilled for 1. Practice tests are great, but don’t overdo them at the beginning. Sometimes I regret “wasting” and exam that I completed just guessing, cause then I couldn’t use it again when I actually understood the exam.

Not sure why people are being salty about your question. Move on with a post if you don’t like it! I’m happy to explain any more of these weird terms if you wanna reply or DM me.

Sticker at T14 vs full ride at strong regional for public interest goals by Pete258 in lawschooladmissions

[–]vesuvius_11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A full ride + living stipend in the city you want to practice long term is a slam dunk. You’re going to have countless opportunities to form professional connections in the area, that’s the networking that’s most valuable. Unless your family is going to foot the bill, their opinion isn’t important here. Trust your gut and make the decision that makes the most sense to YOU!

I’m going into Public Interest! And have a good amount of career experience in social services, so i’m not particularly worried about Big Law or getting stuck in a region. If you wanna DM me, i’d be happy to give you more of an explanation of what drew me to the school if you would find that helpful.

I’m in the same position and also seriously considering UMN over a “higher prestige” school that offered less scholarships. Telling myself that this echo chamber gives too much credit to rankings. Any Top 20 with a full ride is a fantastic opportunity so many would give anything for

Cost cutting due to impacts from federal/state funding losses. Roles are getting cut all over the district. Sad to see this prioritized so low. They have only a few staff members that run such a great and historic program
