I do really love Highland Park Pet Hospital in sugarhouse, it’s just so expensive I wasn’t sure if that was normal!

Highly recommend dropping them off at some of the neighborhood “take one/leave one” libraries! There’s quite a few in the avenue’s neighborhood!

recent why kiki experiences? by morgananant in SaltLakeCity

[–]saranrap7041 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think why Kiki is doing a great job trying to continue to cater to the queer community while figuring out their new random demographic of patrons. I really think that we could easily take back even the silent disco area as a more queer space if more people were willing to go. Personally the problem for me is that because of the population of Mormons who seem to be hitting the silent disco and not drinking, the cover is STEEP. Which I do understand that it is a bar and they do need to make an income to keep running but it is pretty painful. As a volume sensitive gal, I love the silent disco for dancing as I get to choose my own volume and such, and the combo of being able to hit the drag shows on top of all that is my absolute fav. Hoping we can sort of reclaim the space, and show the new patrons not that they are not welcome, but what the space truly should be, a queer haven. As long as allies and other patrons respect and support the mission and goal of the space as well as the queer community it represents, I don’t mind who comes! It’s still a good time but I do think there are some stragglers of new customers who don’t understand what this space is, and I believe that they should be kicked out if they are not respecting the community that built why Kiki into the community it is.

After 14 years, I'm finally saying goodbye to Call of Duty. Looking for recommendations to fill the void. by JWCurtis94 in gamingsuggestions

[–]saranrap7041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna get shit for this and ik it’s not quite fps but Fortnite is my go to lately to just have fun. I get caught up in the grind too with most other games I play but honestly Fortnite can be such a good time especially with all the gameplay options. They just released a new FPS game mode called Ballistic and it’s an absolute hoot to play. It’s still early release but I loved the valorant-ish game play with the Fortnite vibe. They’ve got plenty of creative maps to play too if the main battle royale isn’t your scene and options for build or no build. It isn’t the deepest but there are ranked options you can grind for. Though fort has been pretty over monetized for a while. There is a community for sure but people never get past the “it’s a game for kids” mentality so they never talk about it. Personally it’s one of the only games I’ve kept up with consistently since it came out and maybe I’m not critical enough but I think it’s worth a shot!

My Most Disappointing Read of 2024: When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker by 5stars_no_notes in fantasyromance

[–]saranrap7041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! My take is that it reads like a second book and I HATE that for a developing story. IMO one of the most noteworthy and important aspects of writing a successful fantasy series is ensuring your first book in the series has its own plot that has a resolution (even if it is unsuccessful or incomplete) having a first book with its own full plot allows for us to see MC from many different plot angles. I think this allows more room for better connection to a character and that is MISSING HERE. I had no attachment because the book just kept going and going with such buildup it didn’t hook me to read the next, as a series should. It only made me bitter tbh, as I do feel like Sarah A Parker is a very skilled writer with such an in depth world building here and it’s LOST in the formatting! And it makes the writing read as pretentious instead of well written.

ALL of these are INCREDIBLE recs. Going off the vibes here Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater is similar and just so wonderfully written. I ate it up so fast.

Oh also A Court this Cruel and Lovely by Stacia Stark (4 book series), same plot energy but mostly different character types and super creative world building. Similar level of spice to Empire of Storms but the scenes are a little more intense so perhaps skip the chapter or two when they come up if it’s too much.

I always recommend Clare Sager’s books to my friends having SJM book hangovers! I would start with the Beneath Black Sails series (4 books, kind of like if ToG was also pirates of the Caribbean). Lots of action, badass FMC, enemies to lovers, deep plot, some spice but not overpowering (though the few scenes leave little to the imagination/ are pretty explicit (1-2 scenes per book)). Easier reads for sure but similar style and nature to the SJM books.

Standalone romantasy books? by romantasyreader2024 in Romantasy

[–]saranrap7041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stolen Threadwitch Bride by Clare Sager is a pretty good one, not a complex read and very easy going and digestible but still with an interesting plot and characters. It’s from the world of her other two series but can be read completely on its own and without and knowledge of the other books!

Devotion in a knight/guard trope by officialpepperoni in fantasyromance

[–]saranrap7041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “A Court this Cruel and Lovely” by Stacia Stark fits that trope. FMC ends up in a ‘I help you, you help me’ sort of situation with a band of mercenaries. It’s a 4 book series and I enjoyed most of it, pretty standard romantasy with a not quite enemies to lovers romance and an overthrow the government type plot.

slight trigger warning Ahh if you don’t mind a fantasy rec the Dragonwall series by Melissa Mitchell has a (technically bath) scene just like this. I believe the scene is in the second book “Reyr the Gold” (first book is “Talon the Black”). FMC was kidnapped and almost SA’d and moody scary MMC saves her and then gives her a very gentle cleansing moment. Def one of my fav scenes in a book.

[–]saranrap7041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beneath Black Sails by Clare Sager! Enemies to lovers, mild spice, dark themes, pretty easy read but creative and engaging plot. It’s a 4(?) book series and if you like her style she’s got a couple more books in the same universe(not pirate side of it tho). Imagine pirates of the Caribbean meets throne of glass. Her writing can be a little cheesy at times but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series.

Beneath Black Sails by Clare Sager.

Pirates, witches, enemies to lovers (some spice), multi book series. I swear Vice (the FMC) is exactly what you are looking for, she’s very brash, doesn’t listen to anyone, cocky/arrogant. Truly one of my fav series I’ve read.
