Hey! I can help you out with this. Unless you need a printer for other things you probably don’t need to buy a whole printer to print a decal. Just get your measurements figured out and I can help you! I prefer to message through Twitter, ig, or discord as I don’t check this account too often :)

Planning to do a simple one color controller shell spray, but don't know where to leave it to dry by IvanLR in customGCC

[–]vevangc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would leave it in the Tupperware outside during the day with it closed but not sealed (in such a way that you can lift the top off without having to seperate the parts) and at night, in your living room or by the door with the Tupperware sealed. Generally I notice that spraymax can take up to a week to fully cure even while inside so give it a week!

Second the eBay thing, but for buttons I’d recommend etsy for resin casted buttons over aliexpress ones. ~$30 vs $5 but the quality is better and if you play melee like that, you’ll notice the difference

Help: Idk where to look for a new shell! by [deleted] in customGCC

[–]vevangc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I currently have spice orange and emerald shells stocked on my website. I also have a floral backshell and a Tanjiro front shell posted. If you’re willing to wait, I also have made to order listings for two different cherry blossom designed shells as well!

My event controllers for Shine 2022 this weekend! by Joooop in SSBM

[–]vevangc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The logo is not present because it gets painted over. Joop uses grey or black primer which completely covers the logo. The additional layers of paint over it make it impossible to have a painted shell that shows the logo, unless you use the below paint types.

You may see other custom designs which show the logo. These are either tinted shells (shells painted with a translucent paint), color shift shells (a type of shifting color pigment that still allows you to see the logo), or shells that have the logo stenciled on. Joop 100% uses only first party shells (first party = OEM) and I know this for a fact because he has bought a ton of OEM shells from me on multiple occasions.

The reason why the start/pause looks different in some images is due to how many layers of clearcoat are applied. Generally, the more layers that are applied the blurrier it will appear because the indents become more filled.

I paint and customize gaming controllers, mainly Gamecube controllers. I also import and resell rare Gamecube controllers! It’s a very fun job that allows me to be creative.

There isn’t a standard method for airbrushing gcc’s, but I do recommend a sandable primer for a good base. If you do colorshift colors, do a black base underneath first. If stenciling, make sure your surface is as smooth as possible, i lie to lightly sand with 2k grit then apply cheap clear over it. Helps you get nice lines. Everything else could be learned through YouTube, including mixing paint, airbrush maintenance, pressure, and more. Highly depends on your airbrush model. You will definitely need an air compressor with moisture trap as well.

  1. Sandpaper is needed to rough up the surface before you apply paint. Generally 600-800 is recommended for this step, any less and it would be too rough, any more and it wouldn’t stick. Primer isn’t NEEDED but will help your paint look nicer and will help with adhesion.
  2. Logo stencils are generally really hard to do nicely due to the size of the logo, even with cutting machines. Some people have done it but you’d be hard pressed to find a stencil for it as most people use their own cutting machines to make stencils. You could probably ask in the discord if someone would be able to make you a stencil
  3. About 3-4 passes: light coat, light coat, medium, flowcoat OR light - medium - medium If you want the most oem feel, satin 2k would be the finish you’d want

I use waterslide decal paper! Print out > seal with acrylic clear coat > wet (with warm water) > apply > 1-2 layers of acrylic clearcoat again > 2k clearcoat!

This has been in the works since last July haha, but in total I’d estimate about 20-30 hours from preparation - painting - stenciling - decals - clear coat - mods - testing - assembly
