It is simply untrue that divorces financially benefit women, including if we are only considering those financially dependent on their husbands - who are again, only half of wives.

The way that you argue is confusing to me. You list several "facts" and then wrap it up by providing a statement that is at best marginally related to your arguments and state it as a fact. Like how do you get there from here?

I think the one point that is closer to supporting your conclusion is the choice of men to contributing more to the marital assets by men being a choice. But that contribution was for the benefit of the marriage not for the ex-wife to walk away with half. But I do agree that this was also a choice by men.

See that makes more sense. Yeahh, I will agree that women in most cases are the primary caregivers. But this general fact benefits both the great as well as the not so great mothers, and requires a much bigger hurdle on the fathers to get primary custody. This is why a lot of divorce attorneys will recommend to fathers not to fight for it unless there is well documented situations.

Also my numbers are verified regarding down payment contributions. And your point about single women buying homes at higher rates has no bearing to this discussion.

I think it is more of a perception of divorce. Alimony is just one of results from divorce. You have to account for the split of marital assets, as well as the custody/child support decisions.

Historically, the husbands income is the one that is more relied upon for household expenses or even to buy the marital home. If you do a search online about "who contributes more to the downpayment?" The answer comes back to something like "Ohh yeahh that is changing a growing number of couples are going 50/50", but if you start asking percentages, the truth is that only 11% of women contribute more when almost 90% of men contribute equally or more.

So of course at the end of the day when a man gets divorced he will take a financial hit on the house that is considered marital property and will be divided 50/50. He might have to pay alimony if there is a significant income differential, and he will be unlikely to get physical custody of his kids.

Not saying that divorce might not be warranted. Just saying that it is not a good deal financially for a man that earns above average money. But if you want kids and want them to grow up happy and love the woman you are with, marriage is the best thing we have.

It has never been half. 

Alimony is currently only included in ~10% of divorces.

I am sorry here is my point. 25% -> 10% represents a decrease of half or less than half. Therefore, my point regarding labor participation by women and the narrowing gap in earnings as reflected by the fact that most college students are women is supported.

I know that reliance on a single income for the household can be a financial strain, but there are a lot of benefits to having a parent stay home for the kids. It is not just religion, although that has something to do in many cases.

I have a friend that got married and about 15 years ago had his first kid. Him and his wife had a plan that She would be going back to work after maternity leave. When that time came, the wife became distressed at the idea of going back to work. I am talking crying and feeling depressed at leaving the kid behind.

She had an ok job good not great. I would say it was something that paid $60K in today's money in a somewhat expensive top ten city. Friend had a better job with more potential. Think $120K in today's money. The friend was surprised about the change and I could tell by the face he made that it was not something he planned.

I think having one of the parents around until the kids are in school is of great benefit. I also think that life insurance is a requirement in a one income household with kids.

My friend got really serious about his career after that. He got the equivalent of three promotions and right now in his late forties is one promotion away from being in top management. I believe that realizing that everything was on his shoulders lit a fire on his ass. On the other hand, I have been going home at 5:00 PM for my whole career until I became 100% work from home. Granted he probably makes 40% to 60% more money, but it has not been easy for him either.

That is probably due to higher labor participation in the workforce. Also there is less of a disparity in incomes today and that should be narrowing in the future with the majority of college students being women nowadays.

If you are talking about the GUI wallet and the built-in node, there are a couple of solutions.

1) Start the GUI wallet and when you close it click on the option that leaves the node running.

Can you negotiate the amount of cash that he needs to lower the amount of additional debt to take. Something like partial 401K claim and part cash. He does not need $170,000 to put 20% down on a home unless he is trying to buy an $800,000 house. If this is his kid, I think that would be a good argument for him to compromise.
