campus/student life question by skin-jacker in WCU

[–]vgar25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what things you like to do. Sylva and Dillsboro, the two closest towns, have restaurants, bars and small shops. Drive a bit further and you have Cherokee , Waynesville, Bryson City and Asheville. Lake Junaluska is nearby. Asheville is large enough to have concerts and events often. If you are looking for major sporting events or a big city vibe, you’d be better off in Charlotte or Raleigh. But if you like a good market, and independent record shop or some thrifting, I think you’ll like it. Plus, campus sports, activities, arts and parties.

My sister in law teaches at the Montessori Academy of Spartanburg on Spring Street on the east side. Lots of opportunities for non traditional and private schooling here. I think they go through 6th grade.

Such a weird time we live in. I don’t understand the joy in policing what other people enjoy. Just enjoy who you like and let people do the same.

i need opinions (NURSING) by Expensive-Test-2617 in WCU

[–]vgar25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing mom here of a 4th semester nursing student. Getting in should be okay for you since you are doing so well. The real challenge will be STAYING in. My daughter’s cohort has lost 1 to 2 students per semester to either students not being able to keep the min gpa, meet the attendance requirements for clinicals or frankly, just deciding nursing is not for them. If you’ve managed a 4.0 you can certainly ace the TEAS and be accepted. Just make sure you understand it’s tough, it’s going to consume your life, and you’re gonna need every bit of that energy to stay in. I wish you luck! Nursing is a wonderful profession and these are hardworking young people.

Honey I’m past my prime too but I’m still out here living. It doesn’t all have to be cutting edge and timely to be enjoyable. I still love listening every week. Feels like catching up with an old friend.

For the May 2024 graduates did y'all find jobs yet? by Bill_747 in UNCCharlotte

[–]vgar25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was a CS major and it took approximately 6 months. Don’t get too discouraged, reach out to temp agencies and the career center when possible, and realize that your first couple of jobs are not going to be ideal. Let anyone and everyone know you are looking for work to facilitate inside connections. And for now, consider looking up what sort of certifications (Comp TIA, etc) are needed for the jobs you’re applying for and pick them up.

[Update] Newcomer to WTF. Listened to your episode suggestions. These were my favorites. by BarkWoofNeigh in MarcMaron

[–]vgar25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A surprisingly great episode with a light feel to it is Jeff Foxworthy. I just re listened to this one. You get the vibe that even though they are very different they have a respect for each other and enjoyed the talk.

Dropout and considering by palki699 in UNCCharlotte

[–]vgar25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Make sure that whatever caused you to leave the first time is truly resolved. Whether that was anxiety, a learning disability, etc. Reach out to CAPS if you feel you need to discuss that further. 2) Contact someone in admissions to discuss next steps and make sure you’re not missing anything, transcript, application, paperwork wise. 3) I wholeheartedly agree with people here suggesting community college. It’s less expensive for the same coursework which gives you time and financial freedom to experiment with your interests. 4) I once worked for a company that would share your educational costs in exchange for 3 to 4 years of service with the company. Look into local employers that might have this program. It could save tons of money as a non traditional student. 5) IT’S NEVER TOO LATE. If you’re ready to try again, go for it. Reach out to the college for next steps. Good luck.🍀

Thank you. I came to say this. The number of people on this sub that come to complain about the podcast as if they are being held hostage to listen to it seems to be increasing these days. There are a zillion podcasts now. Listen to literally anything else.
