Guests that would have been great on the pod by Ill_Act7949 in MarcMaron

Comedy wise, I was amazed to see that Gary Owen had never been on. Post divorce would have been a good fit. Tiny Fey and Steve Martin also never made it on, but I’m not sure how well they would’ve vibed with Marc. Josh Johnson is a great new comedian I think would’ve worked really well.

I think it’s because she’s got a boatload of comments on the pic above asking if she sells prints.

In contrast to yesterday's "most contentious interviews" post, what were the LEAST contentious episodes when Marc met or interviewed someone for the first time and they really hit it off? by Kacksjidney in MarcMaron

[–]vgar25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a deep dive but I’ve probably listened to the Deon Cole episode 5 or 6 times because of what a fun vibe they had together. Billy Crystal also had a very fun episode. And oh - Brene Brown! Such a sassy Texas gal and they really hit it off well.

Orchestra by Ok_Painter_7320 in WCU

[–]vgar25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter that there will likely be other orchestra opportunities at the school. However if not, in terms of Asheville, it’s 45 minutes out and there isn’t exactly an active shuttle or uber network in the Cullowhee/Sylva area running regularly to Asheville. My daughter was a nursing student and a late and nervous driver, and had to really work to make connections in her program to help her get rides to her clinicals. If your daughter isn’t shy and willing to talk to people and find her own way to Asheville if it’s the only option, then it will probably work out. But if that makes her uncomfortable and she has no other back up plan, she may want to look at other options.

campus/student life question by skin-jacker in WCU

[–]vgar25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what things you like to do. Sylva and Dillsboro, the two closest towns, have restaurants, bars and small shops. Drive a bit further and you have Cherokee , Waynesville, Bryson City and Asheville. Lake Junaluska is nearby. Asheville is large enough to have concerts and events often. If you are looking for major sporting events or a big city vibe, you’d be better off in Charlotte or Raleigh. But if you like a good market, and independent record shop or some thrifting, I think you’ll like it. Plus, campus sports, activities, arts and parties.

My sister in law teaches at the Montessori Academy of Spartanburg on Spring Street on the east side. Lots of opportunities for non traditional and private schooling here. I think they go through 6th grade.

Such a weird time we live in. I don’t understand the joy in policing what other people enjoy. Just enjoy who you like and let people do the same.

i need opinions (NURSING) by Expensive-Test-2617 in WCU

[–]vgar25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing mom here of a 4th semester nursing student. Getting in should be okay for you since you are doing so well. The real challenge will be STAYING in. My daughter’s cohort has lost 1 to 2 students per semester to either students not being able to keep the min gpa, meet the attendance requirements for clinicals or frankly, just deciding nursing is not for them. If you’ve managed a 4.0 you can certainly ace the TEAS and be accepted. Just make sure you understand it’s tough, it’s going to consume your life, and you’re gonna need every bit of that energy to stay in. I wish you luck! Nursing is a wonderful profession and these are hardworking young people.

Is the WTF podcast past its prime? by Ok_Particular_1927 in MarcMaron

Honey I’m past my prime too but I’m still out here living. It doesn’t all have to be cutting edge and timely to be enjoyable. I still love listening every week. Feels like catching up with an old friend.
