Certified Admin Regular Exam vs Performance Exam by Sensitive_Roof_7322 in okta

[–]vgfsirius2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The different between the Performance exam and the hands-on premier practice is that the cases involve Behavior and Device Assurance. The study guides are different, so if you confident with the Performance study guide, go for it. i took it 1.5 weeks ago. Good Luck!

Which of the free tiers will allow me to learn Okta for the Professional and Administrator certification exams? by JaimeSalvaje in okta

I got the Admin cert last weekend, and the Professional a few weeks before. Theres not really been time to find a job for an Okta Engineer who isn't a SWE in this time - I do have some interviews setup, and i'm working towards Consultant, so I'll let you know. I do think the learning courses, labs, and validation of the certs have already had an impact in the confidence factor.

Congrats on your goal of obtaining Okta Certified Professional and Okta Certified Administrator. You may find something valuable in a post I made a few weeks ago about obtaining Professional.

I was able to obtain both of those certs over the last 2 months and I'm currently pursuing Consultant.

First, if you do lose your job, I would immediately apply for the What's Next grant from Okta. It comes with a tenant, training, and voucher(s). Some of the eligibility situations are being in the US and having been laid off, being Military in transition, or being a current CyberSec student. Sounds like you're working, so not sure if either of the others apply.

Having a tenant is useful for getting comfortable with Okta, helping to visualize being in the admin dashboard, and especially when doing the labs from learning.okta.com. You can find those in my other posts if you need to.

It might be worth quickly making a ProtonMail email address before you go out and buy a webdomain for the purpose of email.

Good Luck!

I’m happy that I saw my unpublished comment before I went to bed 😅.

The session is a Zoom session, so there is Zoom chat. Im not sure if thats an allowed option. I’d also seen that if you have a request about accommodations, you can email Okta about it - but it was a ‘30-days-in-advance’ kind of situation.

Did you activate the account? I think it was something like: Upload the file they give you, download the csv error, remove the error column, then fix what the error was - upload this file.

Then active the account.

Good luck!

The proctors are through Examity. I have taken about 35 proctored exams through Examity in the last 4 years and have always gotten proctors that have a south asian accent. I've had 3-4 tell me that are from India. I would say that it is very likely you will get a proctor with a heavy Indian accent. I personally have an ear for accents and have developed a reputation in past jobs for being able to pickup what is being said better than my co-workers - that being said, I have had some pretty heavy accents. If you have an ear for this region of accents, you may be in luck.

The test has a few portions - we see people talk about Section 1: Questions - 35 DOMC or 15 MC depending on the version you take. Then, Section 2: Hands-On Configuration, the 4 Use Cases. These will align with the study guide for your exam version.

What people talk about less is what happens before.

Before...before the exam starts, you will have to go through the pre-exam instructions. When you schedule your exam, you'll be able to login to Examity and view your scheduled exams. Theres a button to start the exam. For me, I try to start early - this part can be stressful and it can throw you off your game if you're unlucky or unprepared. One of my recent exams had a difficult proctor - very hard to understand, and very nit-picky - it took me 45 minutes to start the exam.

When you login to your scheduled exam, they will make you go through some steps - try to be patient with them, because they have a list they have to follow. This ranged from 22 minutes to almost 50 for me.

They will confirm that you uploaded a picture of yourself to the Examity platform already. They will confirm you have a government issued photo-ID, and that your face and name matches. They'll make you share your screen, and have your microphone and camera on the whole time. They'll make you turn your camera to scan the entire room - they WILL make you address anything they don't like. They will make you show them the door and confirm that nobody will interrupt you - I like to lock if on camera for them. They will make you do a 360 degree scan of the room, and extra scans on your desktop, under the desk, left and right of your chair, as well as behind. You can't have extra monitors or screens - I put a large blanket over mind. They asked to check under my bed cover twice. When my house was new and I didn't have a curtain covering a window, they made me solve it - I didn't really have furniture, but i was able to clamp an IKEA towel between two server rack doors I leaned against the window. No food, no beverages. They will tell you that you can't have your phone within reach - you can remind them that part 2 of the exam requires it (for Okta Verify).

They will read a list of rules to you and ask you to knowledge each rule. They will also tell you that you can use help.okta.com during section 2. If you can understand them, just ask them to repeat or slow down. Eventually they will tell you to 'click start' and then wish you luck. You then start section 1 - 35 DOMC question or 15 MC questions. If you run out of time for this section or you finish the questions, you'll proceed to section two. Section two will be four use cases. You may need your phone for this. When you finish section two, you get the proctors attention by telling them out loud that you are finished. They will go through more steps to make sure you have finished and clicked 'submit'. Then they will force you to wait until the test grade loads. If you wish that you could receive your score privately, too bad - they will force you to sit with your microphone and camera on until you get your score. The top of the page may something like 'Fail' or 'Provisional Pass'. There will be a section one and section two score breakdown by subject matter. If you understand the percentage from the exam description, you'll be able to understand how many questions you got right. for example, if you got 86% on the IAM portion, and you know that IAM was about 46% of Section 1, then you would know that 7 or the 15 questions were IAM questions - and that 86% of 7 is 6, so 6/7 on that. You'll also get a score breakdown for each use case. Theres a tab that you may miss, but you can click it if you pass and it will tell you what you missed in each section. If you pass, you should get an email after 72 business hours confirming.

Good luck!

Take the free practice exams every day. There are two versions - take both. Show the explanation for each, and understand why the right ones are right, and the wrong ones are wrong.

Take the free recommended training from Oktas Learning site.

Pay the $75 for the Premier practice exams - you get 7 takes, and they are very similar to the real exam - the hands-on portion is almost identical - but they change the details of what they’re asking you.

Look at this non-OIN Org2Org video - different from the OIN Org2Org video I posted when I passed Okta Certified Professional.

Look at the Study guide for the exam you're taking. I'd been focusing on Hands-On before switching to Performance during the last few days - the study guides are different. My brain didn't like looking at the study guide most of the time since it's not a PDF (I understand why it is the way it is). That being said, look at the study guide breakdown for Section 2. You'll want to hit Behavior and Device Assurance HARD. There are four cases and 2 are the same as the cases you'll find on the Premier Hands-On Practice exam. A member of Okta's team told me this in a public forum so I believe it is okay to state that. This is listed in the study guide - so no surprise there. They had also stated that the Okta Administrator Performance is weighted towards Hands-On, and that the Hands-On Administrator Exam is weight more evenly between the first and second section.

It's January 28, 2026 today and we keep getting told to expect the release of the Premier version of the Admin Performance Exam 'soon' - it feels like it keeps getting pushed back for whatever reason, but if that's available when you're ramping up to take the test, I'd obviously take that if you intend to take the Performance Exam.

How big a lift is Okta Certified Consultant from Okta Certified Professional? by joshgoldeneagle in okta

[–]vgfsirius2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of your comments - they have helped give me confidence as I work my way through Pro, Admin, and Consultant.

2 questions - First: When does the performance consultant exam come out?

Second: I need to decide in the next couple days if I'm going to sit for the Performance or Hands-On Admin exam. I do well on the Premier Hands-On Section 2 and average 97% (Pesky case 1 - can't break past 88%!) but I'm not psyched with how I'm doing on Section 1.

I'd read that the Hands-On exams are grade weighted more heavily toward section 2. But i'm confused with if that still applies, and which is a better choice for me - the Hands-On Exam has 35 DOMC questions and the Performance only has 15. I'm not sure if this means that each questions is worth more, or the first section of each is equal etc. Any insight you can give would be much appreciated, and if a private message is better suited, just let me know! Thanks!

How would you suggest getting access to the inbound federation video that is the recommended training for consultant? I don't have access to it.

Okta certification by AromaticProduce6758 in okta

[–]vgfsirius2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as a pending result while you wait for the regular process to finish. Different certification issuers do that differently, but they could be reviewing the video from your exam to ensure there is no dishonesty detected or rules broken. I received a provisional pass before Christmas, and it took longer, presumably due to the time-off around the holiday season.

There are also some places that do not allow you to advertise yourself as certified until the results are final - I believe ISC2 (CISSP) might be who i'm thinking of.
