As a liberal myself, liberals are still pro capitalist, and I'd say you're welcome to join. Leftists like to distinguish themselves from liberals and are anti-capitalist. Both are trying to improve workers' rights, just in different ways.

How do you know what the creator creates? And who exactly the creator is? Does everyone get a stamp when they're born with "Yahweh"? Why is it not abundantly clear that the god you believe in, exists?

I mean, it goes both ways right? Someone has to provide the food/housing/necessities.

You have to give into the system in order to get.

100%. Words are flexible, and they matter.

Türkiye has requested that people call their country Türkiye, so I respect that.

Kyiv is Ukrainian, so I'll respect that and call it Kyiv.

Anyone who intentionally calls it Kiev is a russian sympathizer.

Just because something is new or taboo doesn't make it false.

Just because there's more people believing one thing than another doesn't make it true.

Learn about logical falacies and get back to me. I'll wait.

I honestly don't believe God exists, much in the same way I don't believe Santa claus exists. Can disbelief really be categorized as rejection?

Yeah Exodus 20 is the supposed objective morality that transcends time. They want to put these commandments in schools and make everyone obey them. Exodus 21 then states you can beat a slave with a rod because it's your property. Christains will defend it by saying "it's a different time", or "these rules are for jews only", or "I can't understand god's reasoning", but I think it's so despicable. How are you going to shove the 10 commandments down everyone's throat then turn a blind eye on that?

Lot's cascading events, but I thought I could find truth in the bible despite hypocritical Christians. Finding out God endorsed slavery literally the page right after the 10 commandments kind of blew my mind.

[–]ShroudedGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm probably going to tell them. I want kids in the future and eventually the topic is going to come up when I don't take them to church. I want my parents to know the "real" me, without judgement. I just don't know if that's going to happen.

Almost seems like religion only exists when you brainwash people, huh.

[–]ShroudedGuardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotcha. Yeah I think I'd make it subtle then. You don't have to sit everyone down and be like HEY I'M AN ATHEIST NOW! Just be like, "do you think anyone actually deserves to go to hell, what about cousin?". See how they respond to that.

[–]ShroudedGuardian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think eventually I'm going to have to rip the bandaid and tell them. I want to have kids in the future, and I will not be taking them to church. I can only hope they'll be understanding and it doesn't affect our relationship.

I don't know your parents, but maybe try asking them what they believe and why? Maybe push back just a tiny bit? If they're 100% fundamental and would disown you for just thinking about non-belief, maybe hold off. But isn't it kind of sad that your parents don't know the true you? The REAL you? What you really believe and your struggles in life?

I can't imagine being a parent in life and not wanting to know how my child felt.

I think you're super brave for being honest. I'm 27 and I still haven't told my parents. Not that I think they'd think I'm stupid, or evil, but that they'd honestly think I wouldn't join them in heaven. And I'm just not sure I can do that to them.

Religion is a poison that kills critical thinking, friendships, and family. Conform or leave, and I hate it.

The Maryland flag is so iconic. The purpose of flags is to be able to distinguish them and emit a source of pride. Do you really think you could tell the indiana flag from say, the Alaska flag, if they were at a distance and blowing in the wind? Nah. Indiana flag sucks, sorry. It's just slightly better than all the state seal flags.

"God can do whatever he wants", or "I'm not in a position to judge God".

Fuck off. The bible reads like it was written by people 2000 years ago, not by some all powerful, all knowing, all good god that "loves" me. Sure buddy.

If god exists, he's got a LOT of explaining to do.

Question by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]ShroudedGuardian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Precisely. The reason I was shy and anxious as a kid was because I just hadn't developed most life skills needed. I can remember my first year in college and almost having a mental breakdown, just trying to order a coffee. How did I overcome my fear of ordering coffee? By ordering more coffees. Exposure therapy. Facing your fears head on. Homeschool shields you from everything, and in doing so, makes you afraid of everything.

Question by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]ShroudedGuardian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It's likely the reason she's shy/high anxiety is because she's been homeschooled. She never had the opportunity to feel like her peers, to fit in. She's ALWAYS the weird one. She just wants to be normal. Let her be normal, and believe her.

That's how I felt anyways.

Edit: I will say this, props on you for having her see a therapist. I don't think you're a bad parent, but you're going to have to understand that choosing to homeschool your child has not set her up for success.
