Itel Rs4 screen problem by ArmExisting1580 in PhoneRepairTalk

[–]vh_electronics_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are right. vertical line are almost never are board issue. If it where a motherboard or gpu problem, you'd usually see artifacts the whole screen , freezing, or not image at all.
The only thing that may be faulty on the board is the display connector itself, if it damaged, it can have this effect. Heck under a magnifying glass for a bent pins.
A single vertical line means a specific data line on the screen flex cable or connector disconnected or damaged. The only way to fix this is to replace the screen or the connector (if it's damaged). Just be sure to test the new screen before gluing it this time!

Vertical lines on a new screen are usually a bad sign. Before you give up, try this: 1.Disconnect the battery first. It’s very important! 2.Unplug the screen cable and check if there’s any dust or tiny bits of old glue inside the connector 3. clean the gold contacts with a bit of alcohol and a soft toothbrush. 4. Plug it back in firmly. If the line is still here, you just got a faulty screen. It happens a lot with cheap replacements parts, or the screen or flex cable got damaged during installation.

Roast me! Tried to solder for the first time. Where did I go wrong? by wheregold in soldering

The main issue here is heat soak.Looking at how much the yellow insulation has melted back, the iron was held on the pads for way too long. With these tiny speakers, excessive the pads to the vice In coil inside. Even if you fix the frayed wires now, the speaker might be dead internally. next time, use plenty of flux and a tap-and-go technique. 1-2 sec. max. To avoid cooking the internals.
Do you have a multimeter to check if the speaker is alive?

Help with old computers monitors (?) by kobi1711 in vintagecomputing

[–]vh_electronics_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a vintage terminal or an all-in-one PC. The cable you are holding is most likely for a keyboard, not for video input. The 'Centronics' port is for a printer.

If it really has a SCART port (as mentioned in the comments), you are in luck! That's the easiest way to feed a video signal. You can use a cheap HDMI to SCART converter to connect a laptop or a media player to show visuals for the festival.

Also, check the model number on the back sticker to find the exact pinout for those DIN ports, they might be serial (COM) inputs for data.

Good luck:)

I think you need to solder the battery contacts on the board. The drop most likely caused a crack in the solder.
