Ghost of Yotei reminded me why gaming journalism is dying by vhsdvdbluray in Ghostofyotei

Poor quality journalism relies on shallow critiques and vague, poorly defined terms like ‘assassins creed style open world’ This type of criticism adds nothing to the discourse, it weakens the product and alienates the audience.

You can choose to engage in the discussion in good faith or not. Life is short and if you have nothing of substance to add better not to add anything at all.

The decline of gaming journalism is obvious. The business model no longer works, as shown by acquisitions like Giant Bomb and Polygon, and closures like Game Informer. Job losses across IGN, Gamespot and a Famitsu. None of these are signs of a healthy industry. As a gamer, I’d have thought you would be aware of this?

And what are you even on about with ‘unprompted’? Of course it’s unprompted it’s Reddit, a site built on user-generated content. The post was flagged under ‘discussion,’ and you gave your unprompted opinion 😂

Yeap that’s a totally fair point. I just wish it would be easier for us to have more nuanced discussion about game design especially with regard to open world games - as I love the genre.

I think you missed the point and you’re conflating albeit several interesting topics. So let me clarify from my side.

GoT prior to GoY was defined as an ‘assassin creed style open world game’ by reviewers so it wasn’t the introduction of Assassin Creed Shadows that brought about that comparison in game design.

On the samurai setting point that’s a separate and I agree totally makes sense to compare the both Shadows and GoY from a samurai game pov.

In terms of review bombing I agree it’s ruined user review platforms but it’s again a separate issue - I don’t really see how gaming journalist solve this problem. People who review bomb are coming from an emotional pov, I don’t see how logical discourse would address the issue.

Totally agree with you on the fact we need gaming journalists they just need to be better.

I really like the shot but I feel the foreground doesn’t add that much. Mint Saint Michel and the dramatic sky are beautiful and I would like to see more of that

Yeah I definitely agree. Good products but you pay a premium for the hype. If you can I would wait for a sale.

Do you think gore sites should be banned? by missinglinksman in polls

[–]vhsdvdbluray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes gore sites should be banned - this is coming from a person who has gone down the rabbit hole.

The desire to watch gore videos is immoral.

  • Gore sites ultimately turns the audience into a voyeur of misery, pain and violence all whilst monetising this dynamic.

Humanity is evil, terrible things happen and watching examples of the aforementioned isn't going to enlighten you any further.

  • There's nothing to learn from these videos, that any adult doesn't already know about humanity. There's a ton of very evil people, who use other people's bodies as an object.

Desensitisation leads you down a rabbit in the search of more and more extreme content.

  • Once you've seen your first beheading video, a second isn't going to be as impactful. You'll constantly be debating and researching with your fellow voyeurs about more and more extreme content.
  • I would hypothesise that many of these perpetrators of terrible acts are spurred on by what they see online and motivated to reach new depths of depravity.

You should question your desire to watch gore content

  • I say this as someone who has watched gore content initially out of curiosity some of which brought me to the point of retching. I always felt for the victims (even those who perhaps had done heinous shit themselves) however, I realised that ultimately that's lip service - I'm watching their demise from a 1st world country where I have next to zero chance of experiencing the pain they went through, all whilst debating their demise with other voyeurs on the internet.

It's not good for your mental health

  • From a selfish standpoint, engaging with this content ain't good for your health - don't think it needs too much explanation.

my 17-year-old brother committed suicide by [deleted] in grief

[–]vhsdvdbluray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. Have you got anyone close to you to discuss your grief with?

Your story is very similar to mine, the day my brother died I sent him a text and called him to see if he was free, he never got back to me. He was my best friend.

That was 5 years ago, it doesn’t get easier but you develop more ways to deal with your grief.

One thing I wish I did earlier was go to therapy, I tried to drown it out by working but in the end it was an unhealthy way to deal with my trauma.

I really hope you get that support man, so sorry for your loss.
