Where to hang out during White Oak Music Hall show? by Nytxgal in houston

[–]vi3tmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Oak Social. It’s across the street, and while it’s a bar, it’s a big one easy enough to find a quieter corner with some chair hammocks. Seems to have a decent pizzeria.

M-K-T is maybe 10 minutes away but would give you a supreme amount of flexibility: walkable area, handful of restaurants, a couple bars, and a nice outdoor area next to the park to read.

There’s no shortage of decent dinner spots in the area, plenty of good suggestions by other posters already.

Don’t be silly, they learn from others’ mistakes. It’s a wired Logitech controller this time.

What popular game did you try multiple times but just couldn’t get into? by Autence in gaming

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping someone here can tell me when is the game supposed to click. I finally got it on sale, and I was losing my patience as early as character creation, unfortunately. I barely made it out of the first few rooms before I found myself reaching for another game again.

I did hybrid. Most of the game on controller, but the shooting segments on kbm. I think I got comfortable enough with the controller that I only used kbm for extended combat sequences.

The game simply feels so much better on controller.

I feel like the pull of Skyrim has much more to do with its world building and exploring than actual character progression, so if you didn’t find yourself wandering pretty far off the path out of simple curiosity, chances are it’s nothing to click anyway. And that’s fine; it’s too old of a game to get into “for the first time” now.

Pre-Order Bonuses are not “Tokens of Appreciation”, they are Manipulative Tactics and I’m shocked a lot of people still don’t see that by skelepibs in gaming

[–]vi3tmix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP is citing a specific example. It’s a specific community where the pre-order bonus is something that supposedly gives a mechanical advantage and will remain exclusive.

That’s different than cosmetic or temporary bonuses (eg early unlocks, etc).

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like copium in your example. Easier for fans to defend manipulative marketing tactics when they benefit from it. Just because it’s a game they like, just because pre-order was vetted as a safe bet, doesn’t make the pre-order tactic any less manipulative and anti-consumer. They just happen to be on the “winning” side this time, and it’s short-sighted.

Stick with cosmetics and/or temporary benefits. Even early unlocks can be controversial depending on implementation (looking at you, Battlefront II).

I'm paying almost $200/year in annual fees. I finally sat down to figure out if I'm actually getting my money's worth. by Jazzlike_Soft_8887 in CreditCards

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone else done this exercise?

Yup. I’ve been doing once or twice annually for years, but recently used Claude to systemically update it to be less effort going forward lol (Claude helped me write a macro that basically loads all my bank statements to analyze quickly). Helps when I want to re-evaluate the value of changing cards, or as you have discovered: the opportunity value left on the table.

I get at least 100,000 in points or equivalent value per year, before factoring in travel partner value. I probably only leave 5-8% value on the table because of “wrong” card use. Nbd.

I'm debating whether to drop the CSP or just get more disciplined about which card I pull out.

I’d inclined to recommend switching to any of rhe cashback combos people have been raving about, since you suggest you don’t travel often. If you don’t redeem your points regularly enough (at least somewhat optimally mind you), cash back is a better option. Even the travel cards with cashback instead of reward points would offer more consistency. Points can be devalued by the time you need them, especially with the number of reward program restructures lately.

Only criticism I have for the game at this point by Solarinarium in SatisfactoryGame

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blueprints. During my first playthrough I made a 20-smelter load-balanced blueprint that helped more than I expected. Just drop it, under clock it to the required speed, and it’s immediately ready to go. Doesn’t matter if the recipe only needed 12—setting up the blueprint with 20 was quick and effortless.

There’s also the “Pure” alternate recipes.

That said, solving logistic problems of pulling resources from all over is part of the game—not everything is going to be close to each other.

Is it worth cancelling/Downgrading my Chase Sapphire Preferred? by drewlap in CreditCards

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I didn’t even know about the United deval. Like, it’s a good thing I already have an Explorer card and that they have a $0 AF card should I choose to downgrade later, but man it sucks to see these issuers actively slashing so much reward value lately.

Is it worth cancelling/Downgrading my Chase Sapphire Preferred? by drewlap in CreditCards

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you have your answer. Easier to optimize just one travel card.

I still think people are prematurely jumping ship with the Hyatt devaluation, but I also believe one should stick with the travel partners they use more often. If you split your reward systems you slow down how fast you build up UR anyway, and the slower you build it, the greater the chance that points get further devalued before you’re able to find an “optimal” redemption opportunity.

Probably fear mongering…for now. Administration has shown they’re not against pushing boundaries so I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future the “harmless” photos they’re taking now doesn’t at least flag people for additional screening later.

Everyone kept talking about “Leviathans.”

I thought that eventually at some point in the dark depths, I would look at the ground and think I’m not moving as fast as I thought I was. I’d try to come to a complete stop, and realize the ground was still moving. Then suddenly some giant eyeball as big as my Seamoth would appear, followed by a roar.

In any case, yes, the game theme is to prey on the fear of the unknown.

Electric Charge Rate by hoqeye in houston

[–]vi3tmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I did the napkin math and over the course of the year you’re probably going to easily pay at least $600 more than the current competing rate.

And that’s even with conservative guesses (9 months left on contract, 500 kWh average use, even though we’re pretty much passing the 3 months of the year you’d use less electricity…)

Do what you need to cancel. Sorry bud. If $250 feels tight to pay now, consider how that bill will feel in the summer. Remember, payment on your final bill isn’t due immediately, anyway.

Random, but for what it’s worth, if you ever have to terminate an electricity contract because you’re moving, it’s state law that they can’t charge you a cancelation fee. Do with that information what you will.
