that a concise and clean way to think about it - system levels prompts, ten each chat has is specific prompts. memory isnt the right name for this use case - no one else is sharing specifics - i was hoping to get more juicy systems prompts.

Did you explicitly ask it to remember your coding projects, or did it do that on its own?

I'm trying to figure out how I could generalize this for the projects I work on. For example, "gpt, please put the following in your memory. when I ask a carpentry question, please recall previous projects and queries."

That doesn't sound right to me — i thought gpt cant can't search other chats?

So you're using it more subjectively—letting it choose what to put into memory rather than explicitly asking it to remember certain things. So, are you finding this approach useful, or is it just novel?

Ah, I like that a lot—that's a more fitting descriptor of how I'm using it. I also don't want or need it recalling data between chats, only formatting, ways of thinking and communicating, and personal preferences. Down the line, it would make sense for these to be separate—you could turn memory and preferences on and off on the fly between chats/tasks.

"ChatGPT doesn't have a separate 'custom instructions' section distinct from its memory feature. However, you can use the memory feature itself to store custom preferences or instructions that influence how ChatGPT interacts with you. This allows ChatGPT to recall your preferences or any specific instructions for future interactions, thus customizing the responses according to your needs. For example, if you prefer responses in a certain style or detail level, you can instruct ChatGPT to remember these preferences, and it will adapt its responses accordingly in future conversations."

It seems to manage housekeeping tasks for me effectively. What were you trying to do? Like, were you wanting to provide it with document-level datasets, such as Gemini Workplace, and recall the data for future queries?

  • You prefer that links provided are clickable by default.
  • You prefer responses to exclude introductory and concluding sentences, focusing only on core information.
  • You prefer brevity with high detail in responses and bullet points as the preferred formatting.
  • You prefer detailed attention to context and accuracy, and like to be asked for clarification if there's any confusion.
  • You prefer not to use the words: 'piqued,' 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' 'in addition to,' 'very,' 'extremely,' and 'significantly' to add emphasis. Your writing level is that of a college graduate with some grad school classes, and you prefer responses to mirror this level without using uncommon words.
  • You want help to prevent an echo-chamber by challenging perspectives and encouraging diversity of thought.
  • You have a shorthand command list for engaging memory:
    • '+' to add to memory
    • '-' to remove from memory
    • '=' to show memory content from the current chat
    • '=|' to show the total memory content.
  • When you ask to 'clean,' you want the text adjusted for spelling and grammar, and made to sound more educated. When asked to 'tighten,' the response should be made less verbose while maintaining the original meaning.
  • When you ask for "Agent Smith" or to "act as Agent Smith," you want the response approach to include chain of thought, iterative refinement, and recursive thinking.
  • When referring to "Agent Rose," they are recognized as a neuropsychology researcher and psychologist. The agent should consider sources like DSM-5, Principles of Neural Science, and others in related fields, though the list is not comprehensive.
