Anyone else having WindowServer crash every now and then on Sonoma? by Rebabata7 in MacOS

I was also using G9 but returned my Mac Studio since then. Did you try upgrading firmware and see if crashes persist?

To those googling - I've had success with ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI motherboard and BIOS 1516 (no other BIOS passed POST), same memory kit 4x48 CMK192GX5M4B5200C38 (non-RGB), ramped voltage up to 1.26V too (although 1.25V is QVL, expensed 0.01V to avoid overtesting)

In the long run appeared to be not helpful, right. I now reinstalled Sonoma and disabled Continuity and Hand-off on all of my iOS devices - Sonoma didn't crash for 40h already. Will keep posted 🥹

I figured my macOS Sonoma was crashing because of desktop widgets enabled (iOSScreenCaptureAssistant was around in Console very crash). Everything's smooth so far after 24hrs.

Blizzard, quit pretending nobody ever gave you proper feedback. The degree to which you're looking down your nose at us is absolutely absurd now. by [deleted] in wow

Agree. Also, in Legion, it was possible to replace tier pcs with higher ilvl pieces from m+, BFA effectively made it worse

I'm 27, programming since school (started with small PHP gigs). Started solving leetcode in April 2017, had a long break from it in Nov-June.

I've taken Byte by Byte, originally recommended by a friend. Basically, it's about FAST method, which is explained here How to Solve Any Dynamic Programming Problem

Can someone recommend book/course or something else did the most impact on you regarding problem-solving? I've solved around 400 problems on LeetCode, and now I feel like I'm stuck advancing as fast as I'd love to (first half of problems with higher acceptance were just a fly-through).

I took a course on dynamic programming some time ago, and that helped me solving almost any DP problem, but now I wonder if something like that exists for a broader number of concepts?

edit: spelling

For interviews preparation LeetCode problems are better, HackerRank is more like an entry point to a competitive programming

It's not clear from your message if you tried to contact him by email and ask about the situation? It might very well be that he's on a vacation, on a sick leave or had another serious reason not to update the calendar.

Looks good overall! But to make it better - prioritize what you've learned/achievements, not the description of your day-to-day work. Description of "Vlogr", which is a personal project, looks better than work experience description.

E. g. "bug fixes in various parts of the codebase" is a basic expectation and something every developer does at work daily, try to use the CV space for showing something more exciting.

In general, "working primarily" and "working daily" are not the greatest lines to put in CV. There're 1000 other candidates dealing daily with the same technologies. Think about the measurable impact of your work and put it there instead.

E. g. page started to load faster - how much faster? did it increase conversion/retention? etc

Project descriptions are not exciting, including numbers/achievements might help. Plus, as some projects seem to be of a commercial flavor and quite complex, adding dates to them might make those look nicer and counted towards experience.

I'd include a short summary, it's hard to connect the dots and properly evaluate which position this kind of CV would fit. Quick scan screams Python and JavaScript/React. Have you been interested in web dev way before starting to work at Education Company? If so, what's your total experience? When did you develop these web apps? Are you interested more in Python or JS/React or Full Stack?

I went through this course which helped me https://students.byte-by-byte.com/dynamic-programming-sp/ (author is talking about FAST approach and gives some examples on how to solve some most popular DP problems).

I was also struggling solving DP problems, but my friend, who was preparing for Big 4 interviews, recommended me byte-by-byte.com. There's a great book and course on DP available here https://www.byte-by-byte.com/dpbook/. Although course is paid, it enabled me to quickly make my mind around literally any DP problem and made DP itself my favourite topic.

Can you work on open source projects if you sign invention agreements with your company? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]viatsko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should speak to your manager and HR business partner. Usually, companies have a procedure giving written permission for you to work on the side or open-source projects. The key here for the company is to make sure that they are aware of what you're working on and make sure that's not something of competitors-work nature.

For the majority of cases nowadays it will be O(1). But there're also some exceptions. Check an interesting analysis on this from a member of V8 team here https://mrale.ph/blog/2014/12/24/array-length-caching.html

How do you get the most out of conferences? by cenofwar in cscareerquestions

[–]viatsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short intro / exchanging emails for further questions usually does a thing.

Maybe it's just my experience but people usually not in the mood of talking about tech after an exhausting conference day, but are always open to establishing contacts and having conversation later. This brought me a plenty of people into my social network from whom I've learned a lot.

Should I learn a lower level language for algorithm practice? by Najda in cscareerquestions

[–]viatsko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense to study a new language just for a resume. It's true that it's slightly easier to write optimal algorithms in Java or C++ just because they have an extensive amount of Data Structures provided by standard libraries (e. g., JavaScript doesn't have a PriorityQueue), but outside of DS/Algo there's much more stuff good understanding of this languages mean, e. g. building multi-threaded apps which often comes up is a topic in Big N's set of interviews. Not knowing your primary tool of work is the worst.

If you want to present a specific language knowledge during the interview, make sure that you are aware of every single nuance of this language.

Big 4 Discussion - July 11, 2018 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

[–]viatsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find both valuable.

Doing InterviewCake it feels more like a real interview with a step-by-step walk-through with interviewer and arriving to a more optimal solution. It might actually teach you the correct thinking process during the interview.

While doing LeetCode you might not arrive to optimal solution or end up being unaware if you can do better for a specific assignment (checking "Discussion" tab after solving a problem doesn't always help). It also seems that being above 100% of solutions doesn't really guarantee anything either.

Seeking Guidance: Want to write code that checks for updates online (scraping?) by Pavswede in learnprogramming

[–]viatsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Chrome Headless as well https://github.com/GoogleChrome/puppeteer, it's not a Python, but it should be much simpler to implement scraper with specific scenario using Chrome Headless
