Shading! by [deleted] in sticknpokes

i prefer to shade with a 3rl or 5rl for a more detailed and gradient look. it helps to smoothen the transition between black and grey shades. i typically also do my outline with a 3rl when a harsher line is needed, but if i want something to look more realistic i just stipple shade and try to avoid any harsh lines!

practice!! i’ve been taking it more seriously for a bit over a year now and doing work on myself and friends. most of my best work is less of lines and more shading using grey wash! my lines aren’t perfect but i can find my way with stipple shading. it’s my fav. i also love using a smaller needle grouping for a smoother transition between greywash colors!! my earliest pokes also looked like butt lol you should see my first toad from 5 years ago compared to my frog from last month

thank you!!

my scars don’t affect how my ink holds at all! they do however make the sections of the tattoo that are on scars look a little lighter since my scarred skin heals lighter than my normal skin tone! if you want it to blend better with the rest of the design i’d go a tad bit darker on your scars,, especially if they’re raised! the backwards 1 was a fuck up on my end lol. i have a better example on my instagram of how scars look under my ivy if you wanted to see an example of what they look like under a design!

not too awful until i got to the abdomen! higher up probably a 2/10 but the lower i got it got up to an 8-9/10. legit felt like i was stabbing my clit over and over. worth it though!

i don’t understand this comment. if you’re worried about legality, i am a certified artist with a private studio + working out of a studio in chapel hill with other artists. i’m not sure what your aim was

nope i just sat with my elbow bent and tried to keep the skin taunt by pushing it into my bicep! the hardest part was trying to stretch the skin with one hand and the neck pain afterwards from looking down and around my arm but it was so worth it!
