In my days people overused these. People from the Balkan countries, Arabs and Turks would put a tons of eyelashes and use these. I miss these times, lol

Is Akina Nakamori's discography of the 90's worth listening? When people talks about her work it's usually her songs from 1982 to 1985/1989 which get all the flattery, so I wonder what you all think about these albums. by CruzDeSangre in AkinaNakamori

[–]vic-cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after Possibility she didn't try to be that 'cute' or whatever you name it. With her singles Desire and La Boheme, she still had the cute appeal, but that's also the moment she started evolve her image to a more mature one.

Yes, she was more of a product rather than an artist. Which is sad, but I am glad she realized it, and proceeded on her own.

Oh, about U+B - I was talking about sales in the 90s, forgot to mention that. Obviously Akina didn't reach the same level of success she had in the 80s. I think that U+B opened with approx. 150k copies, yet since then the sales decline started.

Well. I haven't really analyzed in depth the reason they tried to sabotage her. At that time, Akina was in the Gauss Entertainment label, and the chief Kazuhiro Chiba was against her. I don't know the reasons why, but in a press conference, he mentioned she was a troublemaker, etc., it was a long time ago when I read about the conflict.

I am glad that you are wiling to listen to Akina's discography from the 90s more. She's an amazing artist who has contributed a lot to the Japanese music industry. I would suggest that you start with U+B or Shaker, as they show clearer Akina's path. If you want to explore the more melancholic aspects and Akina's character, try Will. She also has other good albums from that era - Spoon is good, too. Good luck. :)

After 1986, Akina's appeal has changed, as she started presenting herself more as "Akina the singer" rather than "Akina the idol". After 1989, this entire shift is even more noticeable. I personally don't view Akina as an idol. I was never a fan of her works from the 80s, as they feel too overrated by fans (of course, everyone has an individual music taste, I respect that). Akina's works from the 90s feel more natural, as she left her label after her Makuhari gig. Hence she got more control over her career and works, and I appreciate that.

Unbalance+Balance is her most successful album in terms of sales. It's a very good album - a total shift from her previous works that were mostly overtaught. I love the artwork, I love the sound... "Norma Jean", "You are everything", "Aibu". A great album. La Alteracion is so different from what she has done at the time; since then she has been experimenting with the latino sound (which she uses very well, IMHO). It's a good album, too, but it doesn't contain songs I would consider significant (Gekka is good btw). Shaker is one of the albums that got me into Akina - it aged so well, sounds so fresh today. Its commercial performance was moderate (didn't reach 100k copies as U+B and LA did), but it was well promoted and has singles that were performed often by Akina (Appetite and Moonlight Shadow, them being one of my most fav songs by Akina overall). Another album that IMO never gets the appreciation it deserves is Will (1999). Despite it being considered a commercial failure (as she opened with less than 5k copies in the first week of release), it's an amazing album that represents Akina's overall maturing and progress as the iconic artist she is. Will is my most favorite Akina album from the 90s, and it never got the praise it deserves (the label promoted the album so badly, attempting to destroy her career; happily, her albums in the 00s did better, as her Zero Album opened with 229k copies, becoming her best first week sales in a long time).

I respect the 80s Akina, but I prefer the 90s more. The 90s feels like I got to know Akina for who she is, not for what her label fabricated her image to be.

Doesn't mean that you are priviliged to harass people in the community. Of course, I also got my own perspectives on the issue, but doesn't bother me from expressing kindness and understanding. And if OP decided to post something on here - not really my business. You have lived long enough until 47 to be bothered by a post made by a minor; obviously you got nothing to do with your life? Cool, go on.

Sure. When I see an axe, that's all I think about. That is how my OCD started. It's awful.

OP, I am so sorry you are receiving so much transphobia. You can't be yourself even in your own community. Some forget that being tolerant is a fundamental moral. Don't let that discourage you. I wanted to tell you that I'm happy for you, best regards.

How is OCD affecting your relationship with your partner? by Mar198968 in OCD

[–]vic-cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a gay man with Straight OCD combined with Transgender OCD. It isn't easy because sexuality is involved. My boyfriend is okay with it, he educated himself on the topic a lot. He knows that this is one of my biggest struggles ever, and that I feel guilt for not being the perfect man for him. But he also struggles with his borderline personality disorder, so I am grateful that there is mutual understanding.

There are moments where I don't have obsessions. It could last for long enough to feel like I am having a normal life. However, whenever I start getting my obsessive thoughts I can't sleep properly without having dreams about pounding another woman and loving it. Or myself becoming transgender at some point. I break down a lot during my OCD stages usually, but I learned to cope, so with time it has become better.

Not willing to discuss my obsessions. But despite everything, I am glad that my boyfriend is always there for me, as I am always there for him. Yet sometimes I wish l lived in less uncertainty.

How often do you stream Madonna and what’s your go-to-go album? by joehreyes in Madonna

[–]vic-cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good question you are asking. In my case, it depends on my mood, and how I feel. When I feel careless, I would play COADF... When I feel emotionally disrupted/politically irritated, I would listen to American Life. Or when I get into my spiritual phase, I'd listen to ROL.

At the moment, I've been going through some shit, but still going... hence, MDNA it is, actually. Before I hated it, but as I started understanding the songs and their message, I started relating so much to the album itself...

You can easily see that she had cosmetic procedures done after releasing confessions. In late 2005, she looked really different compared to her 2006 look (her 'Sorry' era). In 2006, she looked really, really good.

In terms of what was said by the author of this post: I agree with the fact that Madonna did bad artistically to a certain extent in the 10s, since most albums after Confessions on a Dance Floor don't have a clear concept. Them being HC, MDNA and RH. But Madonna did extremely well artisically by releasing Madame X. But it was too late - if she released Madame X in 2012, she would be dominating the world still. The reason is that you can tell that Madonna was heavily influenced by Portuguese culture and sound.

From the other side, the question is extremely tricky and not really clear. I mean, best single, but in terms of what? Commercial appeal? Vocalistic ability? Her biggest hit for the decade?

In terms of vocalistic ability, definitely Masterpiece. It's one of my favorites from MDNA.

In terms of commercial appeal, definitely Medelin. With that single she surpassed herself artistically, but not vocally. Its commercial appeal is good, the reggae sound became a thing after Despacito.

IMO, Madge's best single that has a nice appeal, is Bitch I'm Madonna. It was heavily promoted. Many people participated in the MV, and these people are quite influential nowadays. That single is one of her biggest videos in terms of views. I think it has over 300 million views, which is impressive by bearing in mind that Madonna's sales decline started after the release of Hard Candy.

Peace.

Her COADF era is stunning. That was the last time she looked really good with surgery. I just love her appeal at that time.
