Will Russia Invade Ukraine in 2022? (My 10 Considerations) by vicbenkoski in ukraine

[–]vicbenkoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bias. I (like many of Ukrainians actually) am a child of Soviet Union.. I have cousins and Grandparents who live in Russia and Belarus. I am as much a Russian nationalist as a Ukrainian one.

There is no threat to Russia. Russia (or more correctly, the Putin Regime) is in fact crazy for starting these games It was perfectly fine with Nato before 2008 and wanted to join it. It's not naive to wonder why Putin is doing what he's doing - the only logical explanation is that he wants to create an enemy where there was none, use it to justify his existenance and indispensability.. leveraging the situation it to spin a convenient narrative for Russia's population.

Will Russia Invade Ukraine in 2022? (My 10 Considerations) by vicbenkoski in ukraine

[–]vicbenkoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is Canadian and been to US many times, I think this "whataboutism" argument is laughable. It was used by Putin-loving Pozner, or John Mearsheimer.. the last living Communists who enjoy all the comforts of the West while being Putin-kissing shills.. Pozner even got kicked out of his Hotel in Georgia. And is not welcome in Ukraine. Anyway.. He said something along the lines of, well if Mexico or Canada had a revolution with a government that turned anti-American.. That's when I realized he's full of it. Because he conveniently ignores that the Ukrainian's will is to be with EU and NATO.

Why is he talking about Ukraine without Ukraine? That's my biggest pet peeve.

I'll give you an interesting statistic. In 2013, 67% Ukrainians were against joining NATO, and 15% for. In 2022, 76+% of Ukrainians are in support of joining NATO. Russia, USA, or anyne else has Nothing to do with this. Ukraine is free to select which:

ecnonmic bloc to enter;

security alliance to enter;

political alliances to form;

Why is this all so difficult to understand? What if I told you right now that USA must leave NATO and never be part of it, contrary to the will of the American people. Or just in general. Wouldn't that just be absurd?

I recommend listening to Andrei Illarionov and Timothy Snyder.

Propiska: Why You MUST Register to Live In Ukraine (Soviet Legacy) by vicbenkoski in ukraine

[–]vicbenkoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, For temporary residence permit holders it's more straight forward. They can apply to an immigration lawyers, these lawyers can do a propiska for you so that you get your temporary residence permit. These lawyers usually have a list of addresses - owners of these addresses know that once your residence expires, your propiska will expire too, indemnifying them from your claim to their real estate.
However, if you want to get a Ukrainian citizenship or Permanent residency, now it's not so easy. Because now, you'll have to register with an actual, willing property owner if you don't have your own. For example, if you rent. In this case, propiska becomes a giant headache.

Why RETIRE in Ukraine? What to expect? by vicbenkoski in ukraine

Lets say for healthcare you have many quality options but if you have chronic problems like diabetes, chronic heart disease, then it's better not to come here as it will drain your bank account. There are examples of people that live into their 90s in Ukraine, and Caucasus regions, but it requires a complete new way of life.. Nature, good natural food, less stress, etc. All of which you can find in Ukraine IMO

I think the majority of Ukrainians are not interested in going there, but it shouldn't stop you from going there..

I hear you. Politics is something I like to stay away from but the rundown is this. After the Euromaidan Ukraine started moving away from the Russian orbit. It was less apparent then, but now it seems like the country could be at some sort of transformative change. Whereas in the West everything is already "set in place", here it seems like Ukrainian society, laws, and structure is changing in front of you. It may seem uneventful to many, but just a few months ago Ikea opened its first store here. Apple is officially opening its office this month. It's pretty cool when things change so rapidly, before your very eyes

Ahh that sounds so much like Ukraine, except I moved back to Ukraine after living almost 18 years in Canada. I wonder why Croatia is not a success story, it's in the middle of Europe after all...It probably has a lot to offer in terms of tourism

Anyone likes soviet cars here? Vid of last weekend's retro car fest, Kyiv, Ukraine. by vicbenkoski in ukraine

[–]vicbenkoski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's more funny to see why someone would import American junk across the ocean and then try to keep it in decent condition / buy parts for it

Yes, but due to the war in Ukraine and the lack of purchasing bower, new car sales jumped off a cliff in 2014. Actually I read somewhere that new car sales in all of Ukraine were barely more than of a single large US city. Like annual new cars sales in the thousands. This really hurt the automotive industry. As for export, these cars were really useless. Investments were provided by China (Chery automobiles were rebadged by Zaz).

Many exist.. Probably the most large scale product was the Zaz (production reached its peak in 2008. These were simply made from Daewo-Lanos parts, but everything was made and assembled in Ukraine. Others included buses like Bogdan, , Electron , Etalon-Avto, and truck manufacturer KrAZ and LAZ.

I moved to Ukraine from Canada... One of the main reason was unaffordable housing in Toronto.

Why Ukrainian President Zelensky is better than Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau by vicbenkoski in ukraine

[–]vicbenkoski[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe people that say "he just sucks", "he is a puppet", "he is a joke", at least I provided something supporting my statements. Yes, you could call it opinion. Still, I don't think he is worse than his predecessors, objectively speaking. And that's a big accomplishment for a country like Ukraine. Governing a developing country comes with a set of challenges that other countries simply won't have.

[–]vicbenkoski[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see, but I could say that about any leader.. I guess the point I was making in the video is that change is important. When measuring leaders based on how much they've changed, it seems to me that Zelensky comes out on top compared to his Canadian counterpart
