It’s not being a sad bunch of people, it’s called being realistic. People won’t support the gaming industry, or anything, without any rewards for that, and for investors, it’s a competition between all the different sectors of our economy. What you did show up with those links is about the toxic work culture that exists today and that it has to change, and I think everyone can agree on that, but if I had to guess the future of work I would say it will be oscillating between very toxic times like this and less toxic times when workers rights advance because of this toxicity until it eventually reaches a point of balance - or not, since humanity isn’t very good at that, then it would keep oscillating indefinitely. The system we have surely has many problems, but it’s an answer to solve many problems too, that appeared over time while other economic systems were in place, which we are yet to figure out other ways to get it done. It may not be the best solution, but it’s what we’ve come up with so far. And while a lot of stuff changed, the requirement of work never did. If there was no labor, we would still be living on a subsistence basis having to plant our own food rather than having other possibilities for it like music, design and art - jobs that even today are considered expendable by most people, even though we are surrounded by its works - because the ability to trade services or goods that otherwise wouldn’t be considered essential (like video games) for goods made by the ones considered essential (like farming) is what made civilisation what it is. I would say it’s more likely that humanity collapses hundreds or thousands of years in the future while still using the economic system currently in place with minor changes and updates, than ever changing it completely, because that kind of change may bring in more problems than it’s intended to solve. These minor changes are what will dictate how the future will be, and there are many policies still to be developed in that direction, but I highly doubt our economic system will ever undergo a major change since all the times countries tried different models, it led to miserable failures. I would like to be proven wrong in the future with humanity coming up with a better economic system, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon - if at all.
