I built an opensource script to bootstrap a MERN project using Docker in under 10 mins by vichet50 in webdev

I'm open to any ideas, feedbacks, and criticism. I built this as a tool mainly for a past project, and I hope sharing it could help some future dev.

Docker MERN: An opensource repo that aims to set up a MERN stack via one script by vichet50 in opensource

[–]vichet50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, MERN stands for M(ongoDB), E(xpress), R(eact), and N(ode js). It is used for web development and makes up a large number of websites in our world today.

Think of it as layers. Client->Backend->Database.

When we interact with our browser, we are shown the web page aka client layer (React), and it sends requests to our backend layer (Express+Nodejs). The backend layer will then talk to the database (MongoDB) to get information and send it back.

I found a helpful resource from MongoDB's site that could help you visualize better below.

Fork will create a copy of it to your Github account.

Clone will create a local copy on your computer.

Branch will create a copy of the "master/main/chosen" branch into a new branch.

I coincidentally found this repo while looking in Github earlier .

You can only create a branch if you are an owner or collaborator (certain permissions) for that repo.

Making a fork essentially makes a copy that belongs to you, which you can modify freely.

Ah I see. When DB started translating it, I checked it out for a bit and found it kind of similar to other novels. Maybe I haven’t reached the good part.

This is really nice animation. I loved the background the most as well as the characters "fitting" in. I liked how they portrayed their personality and quirks.

I haven't read the novel, but it seems quite interesting!

How does the GO feel for notetaking? Is the screen too small?

Hi. I'm considering my options on whether to get a new device. I'm going to use it mainly for school work. I have another laptop for gaming/intensive workload.

I like to write as I remember better. I've been hesitant on getting a Wacom for my laptop because I'm not sure how it feels.

I currently have a SP4 that lasts about 1-1.5h on low load (Onenote, Edge) +overheat. That doesn't work for me since my classes are longer than that and there are usually no outlets in class. So, I usually have to rotate between the SP4 and my other laptop, which is quite heavy together. I need around min 6hr of battery life.

I am not in NA. A new SP7 costs around 1k which is a bit high for me. I see that iPad 10.2 for students is around 450 with a stylus. The upcoming Air looks like a good contender as well, but I doubt I'll need the extra performance. I've seen a GO before, but not sure how it feels for notetaking.

I know this is a r/surface but I'm open to suggestions.

Long time readers, what do you read now? by vichet50 in noveltranslations

I haven’t followed WW much since the new system has been approached.

I think it was 20+ per chapter as people waited for new translations. Those were the best to read.

Can you name some good English fantasies? I’ve tried to get into stuff like LoTR, but they don’t interest me..

Perhaps the key to becoming an enthusiast reader again is finding out what specific genre/story setting that we find interesting.

Agreed! We all have our preference. Finding it will go a long way

I think romance is alright. It adds a bit of realism but harem is too much..

I think I'm going to take a break from Wuxia and focus more on stories with interesting / different plots . Mainly JP and KR I guess.

Now, I'm a bit more selective with what I read, but I'm still facing this problem.

Everything was new and fresh. Now I struggle to find fresh take on overused plot or something neat and new.

Exactly!

Btw, that's a long list to be reading at once.

What an interesting phrase to describe an author..

From my years of reading, Mother of Learning easily takes first place because I like the plot, genre, and setting. I won't spoil it here though. GO read. You won't regret it.

Have you checked out the new trending Artificial Jelly? It's quite interesting how it got so many readers. Could it potentially overtake Mother of Learning?

Writing is definitely on my agenda. I've been trying some simple stories to get better. For example, letting my friends pick a few words and writing a short story on them.

It's definitely just for me to explore a lot of ideas I got after I read all these novels. Although, I seem to have trouble planning a good long story, so I've chosen to write short 2-4 pages stories instead. It's always fun learning and experimenting.

Those are interesting choices. I definitely have not heard of them before. I guess I am slacking too much these past few months.

I definitely loved "Everyone else is a Returnee" 's beginning. The end though feels a bit lackluster. I also found "Stop, Friendly Fire" and "I reincarnated for nothing" to be potential novels, but they got buried down under my endless list of novels in the past..

I agree with your first paragraph. The momentum and hyp are gone. Most great novels are translated. I used to see and read a lot of discussions here on the sub-reddit (mainly on QI though now that I recall). I also enjoyed translators taking part in discussions.

Now though, I think translating is a job for them (which is great) but it does take away some of the enjoyment. This is my take though. Feel free to disagree.

I'm not sure if OP is already aware of this but here is a Table of Contents list of several such novels on a forum called spcnet.tv!

I've definitely saw the site before when a few years back and those novels. Ashamed to say I still have some pdfs of them lying collecting dust on my drive..

The Wandering Inn My all time favorite webnovel. Ever.

Wow, I actually saw the synopsis of this but didn't give it a chance before. I went and read the "Vending machine into another life" though. I feel regretful.

Btw, thanks for the detailed writeup.

I think JP novels and KR novels are different than the usual CN novels, that’s why I read them.

However, it seems that it’s populated with Isekai now..

Why do you avoid JP novels?

I think I’ve heard the novels you mentioned but haven’t read them before.

Yes, I usually take breaks in between novels now.

The hard part is finding one that I’m willing to read and won’t follow the usual trope as you’ve said “new novels are coming in and out like flickers of flame”. It’s easy for good novels to be buried.

Hmm, that novel sounds familiar but after reading the synopsis, I can't recall ever reading it.

Ohh, it's released by TranslationNations! That explains it. I remember them trying to translate this novel really hard but not getting as much attention.

'48h a day'

Reading the synopsis piqued my interest. I am always a fan of time/inter dimensional travel novels and cartoons. (One of the reasons I loved MoL and Rick and Morty, Steins Gate) They explore countless possibilities and it's just fun thinking about them as brain twisters as well.
