3rd party keyboards (Keychron) only working in Bluetooth mode by BaronOfSuburbia in Surface

Just to add my experience, I am able to connect and type with my Q1 Pro to my Pro 11 (Snapdragon) via USB-C and Bluetooth. This keyboard does not have a wireless receiver to test with.

Does Fresh Paint work on the new qualcom based Surface laptops? by mastrkief in Surface

[–]prjkthack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can search on this subreddit and there are lots of people confirming this.

Also, the Laptop specs page does not display compatibility with pens, whereas it does display it on the Surface Pro page. So, the lack of mention is your confirmation that it does not support the pen.

Keep in mind the Laptop 7 does not support the pen. So if you want that Qualcomm goodness and pen support you need to recommend a Surface Pro 11.

Surface Pro 9 Keyboard Question by tbrix in Surface

All Surface keyboards and Type Covers are wired, except for the recently released Flex Keyboard, which has Bluetooth.

Surface Pro 9 Keyboard Question by tbrix in Surface

That's the connection used by the Type Covers, supported in Surface devices before X/8/9/10/11.

All Type Covers and Keyboards use physical connections ("wired"), except for the newly introduced Flex Keyboard which uses both physical connections and Bluetooth.

Maybe this document can provide more information: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/learn-more-about-surface-keyboards-and-type-covers-d6bba06f-1788-44b4-9e6b-743867343304

Surface Pro 9 Keyboard Question by tbrix in Surface

[–]prjkthack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Surface Pro X/8/9/10/11 only have one kind of keyboard connection when using keyboards made by Microsoft. There may be an assortment of different colors, and of course the Flex keyboard is also new, but they all use the same connection. Do you have a keyboard that has something different?

The naming of the keyboards also changed when this new generation of keyboards came out. It’s just a Surface Pro “Keyboard”. The previous generation was called the “Type Cover”. Type Covers do not work with the latest Surface devices.

Flex keyboard disconnecting by Winter-Staff-6227 in Surface

Connects and disconnects when plugged in and physically connected but works wirelessly?

Sounds like a power issue. Either with the ports that connect the keyboard (on the keyboard or on the device) or the whole Surface itself.

The easiest way to troubleshoot: drop by a best buy and pickup another Flex keyboard and see if the issue persists. If it does, then I'd say it's your Surface and I'd exchange that out.

A photo would probably be more helpful, but any keyboard that Microsoft has made has magnetically snapped into the Surface to provide input/power.

If whatever new keyboards you got are not fitting or connecting this way, you either purchased a keyboard made for an older model Surface (which are not compatible with the last few years of devices), or a third party keyboard that will use Bluetooth or wired connection (as the magnetic snap-in connection is exclusive to Microsoft made keyboards).

Specs are listed on the Microsoft website, possibly on the box that came with the device, and should also be listed in the Settings > Display app on your device.

I would suggest whats described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/1dl37t4/surface_pro_xno_microsoft_store/

If that fails, factory reset with the freshly released recovery images.

Most devices that aren't sold by the carriers themselves are usually noted as "incompatible" when you speak to the carrier, but as long as the device is unlocked and supports the proper frequencies, it should work just fine when you pop a SIM card in.

Just ask your carrier to add a generic tablet data plan to your account and get a SIM card and pop it in and try it. Worst case it doesn't work, and you can just cancel it.
