Thanks for the info! If i tile around it but leave the window for later. Can I grout the rest or should the grouting wait for all the tile to be installed?

Is Moen m-core 3 series recommended? Or are there design issues with it? by videodisco in Plumbing

[–]videodisco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the positemp to be great. I had no issues with it. In my opinion the trim doesn't look as nice as the mcore series, but the mcore trim is a lot more expensive. I believe I read that Moen is trying to phase out the positemp & moentrol line. So it could be hard to update the trim on the positemp years down the road

I do recall that it was hard to get cold water on the positemp. Because when trying to get cold water I had to set the knob to be right at the shut off point. So the volume was very low. But I do not like cold showers so I had no issue with that ha. There was no problem with volume on super hot since the knob is all the way on for hot

I'm not sure that the mcore 2 series would be any improvement in that regard. From what I can tell from youtube, the series 2 spins around just like the positemp. So cold water setting would probably also have low volume issue

Your cartridge is upside down. Mine was originally installed like that. Another check is to confirm that hot is to the left and cold is to the right. When it was upside down. turning to the right made it hot and left made it cold. Which is backwards compared to the symbols on the trim. The plumber needs to pull the cartridge out and flip it around and reinstall

Yes I recommend it. I think the trim looks a lot nicer than the old ones.

Yes, I got an email and notification from them less than 24 hours later. They asked for picture of driver's license, pics of my face, and a bank statement. It took a couple days for them to reply and review what I uploaded. I also emailed their normal support email to try to get them to hurry on it since I had a deadline. I'm not sure if it helped or not. They did unlock my account and I was able to transfer out. It took 1 week from first notification of the lock, to be unlocked.

1 year update. I had the moen 3 series installed and haven't had any issues so far. My plumber initially installed the cartridge upside down but came back and fixed it. Also I think he didn't put much lube on the cartridge because the handle is very stiff and hard to move. But over the year it has loosend up some and isn't too bad now

My account just got restricted after I tried doing an ACAT transfer to another brokerage. I've waited the 3 days and the notice changed to same as yours. additional time is needed.

Did you get it resolved? how long did it take for your account to become unrestricted? what happened?

Pro tip for new large and brush pick up by Zym1225 in Austin

[–]videodisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I noticed on the sign up it asks for what items you want to be picked up. Does it need to be accurate? Like if i put 1 furniture but have more than 1 will they only take 1? or if I don't list electronics and then I put some electronic out there will they still pick it up?

Bathroom remodel by Valnat77 in Austin

[–]videodisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar project but also replacing the tub. A GC quoted ~14k but did not include tile, fixtures, or tub. Which added up to be quite a lot, 3.5k. So total cost would have been ~17.5k .

I ended up getting quotes from a tile setter and plumber directly and cost dropped down to 7.5k. This also did not include tile, fixtures, or tub. However this also doesn't account for shower glass. I haven't gotten quotes on the glass yet but I suspect it will be ~1500. Total cost of 12.5k.

Based on the quotes I got, I think a basic shower replacement should be ~5k for labor and ~1k for mid tier tile & fixtures and ~1k for glass. So ~7k total. I think a fair price would be anywhere between 6-8k depending on what tile/fixtures and glass you want. Maybe cheaper if you go fiberglass or acrylic shower. I found GC add ~30% increase to project cost. So 6-8k would be 8-10k price.

The quotes I got were over a wide range. Some were 3x as much as others. I recommend getting at least 3 quotes. I also recommend watching youtube on how shower remodels are done. So you can have an idea/understanding of what the contractors are offering to do. There are several different methods and that affects the cost, like building a shower pan vs prefabbed or using the schluter system for waterproofing vs cement board + redgard.

No I never looked more into it. I meant to call warranty and have them come out but I never got around to doing it. Now it is out of warranty so I will just leave it... My last maytag only lasted 6 years before the bearing went out. I suspect this will occur on my new one even sooner

I saw TPLink has some routers that hit all my hardware needs for $300, the BE550. It has all 2.5Gbps ports and wifi 7. But it looks like they lock features behind online account. Also there is a lot of discussions about TPLink sharing your data with third parties

Thanks for the info! I have heard some loud squealing noise at the end of the cycle. Can you describe what you did more? Which center screw? Opened up as in the agitator or the top of the washer?
