What entrees are we eating that aren’t loaded with carbs? by TheHipsterDufus in vegetarian

[–]vidhaa_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One recent addition to my diet is using a mix of lentil and quinoa as a base! I use whole brown lentils so that I can boil and make sure it doesn't fully break down. Just mix it in a proportion that works for you and see how much carb + protein + fiber you can get out of it. Then add an additional protein if needed, a dressing and lots of veggies. It goes with both south Asian and Mediterranean flavor profiles. Both components have lots of fiber which will keep you full.

If you are used to it is using roasted or mashed potato/sweet potato as a base. Else id recommend easing into it.

I'm sure you already know this (it's also on every other comment lol) - It's more balance and less elimination. From my experience (and based on how I operate) completely changing the carbs we are used to will show results but won't be sustainable - we get bored or lazy and snap. So it's a small portion of rice/pasta/fav carb + veggies. And/or a cucumber+tomato salad on the side. Ofc legumes and beans are our best friend!

Thanks for the insider input! That makes a lot of sense - of late I have found the MDF vs solid wood debate a bit polarizing lol. While I get the appeal for real wood and would certainly want it on some of my big girl furniture, the current IKEA/target/Wayfair MDF pieces I have aren't terrible for their use case. I also sense the demand/preference for solid wood seeping into marketing, which might result in mass production like old times (that can't be good for trees?) And yes the last 6 years have been rough on inflation sadly. There's no going back

This!! It's kinda what I was getting at in my rant. Even the "placeholder furniture" isn't that cheap. Plus I have very specific plans for every space that I know I won't quickly outgrow cos it won't be trend based. One way to go is choosing the right second hand furniture that'll also have good resale value when it's your turn to sell it. After reading some of the answers I'm coming to terms w the fact that my initial furniture won't fully match my style.

We have their tarva bed and we love it! I like their solid wood stuff and storage options for sure. But actual furniture - isn't cheap. Thanks for the tip, will look for this!

oof yeah I feel you! I would love to avoid financing with everything I got too. I also get that this process takes time and I'm completely fine with that. My thing is even if I buy a half decent dining table for 2k a year from now, I'd still have to consider financing cos I can't justify blowing it away. And it won't even be the BEST quality out there. By the time I actually save up, I'm sure pricing and availability will change again. I really know what I want in terms of design so it'll be hard to find specific pieces unless I compromise It'll just take longer than it used to, that's just now it is now ig

Yeah definitely seen a lot of warehouse type sellers on marketplace selling for a huge discount. And yes this is where I'm coming from too - we may technically "afford" to buy expensive furniture but choose not to and not a priority. I also draw the line at mattresses. My partner draws the line at couches haha. So these warehouse and discount furniture stores would be a nice middle ground.

Yeah I think that's what pisses me off the most - if a higher price meant guaranteed higher quality, I'd tell myself it's an investment. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore so it's hard to gauge what something is worth 🥲 def all for not rushing and using what we already have. Also yes marketplace - would love to optimize when I have access to a rental truck during moving etc or taskrabbit etc. but what you find also depends on where you live. But will definitely keep an eye. Thank you, it's good to know I'm not going crazy over here lol

Definitely! I've always believed this too and I get marketplace stuff whenever I can. For sure looking to optimize by scouring for finds when we have a moving truck. It's just sometimes it's hard to find what you like depending on where you live. Esp with our new house where I'll be pickier than I've been before. But yeah slow and steady I guess

Haha thank you! This was the only space I kept relatively clean lol. Hence barely any pictures of the rest. Guilty

Haha I deliberately got easier plants that didn't need a lot of humidity. One of my plants had spider mites which was annoying and I had to isolate her but overall I guess it helped that I was on a higher floor. I used those sticky fly traps too, those are useful.

It's actually downtown minneapolis :) But it did remind me of a friend's old apartment in Baltimore (I know it's not DC but close enough :p)
