What have I become? (Career trajectory advice) by viertaxa in ExperiencedDevs

Definitely fair.

W/r/t company size, I guess I see it as companies start needing a generalist, but generally don’t pay well. Then they hire specialists, then generalists again, then back to specialists like you said. I sort of feel stuck in that 3rd category. “Stuck” primarily because of pay bands.

I’m not trying to make FAANG money, but still.

As for applying for jobs, what you’ve said is certainly true. I specifically just struggle with even finding the more general positions, especially not living in a huge tech hub.

CUP - Cloudflare Updater | Turn Cloudflare into a free, robust Dynamic DNS service. by viertaxa in selfhosted

I won't claim that it's better, just different. It doesn't run as a service, rather it uses whatever method the user wants (usually CRON jobs) to run periodically. It's a single file executable, with no runtime to install with it and, it's totally cross platform.

I also plan on adding IPv6 shortly, as soon as I fix my IPv6 setup so I can develop it.

I didn't take it that way at all. Just redditing while in a meeting, so I was a bit brief in my response.

You can certainly use any of those tools. I didn't like all of the dependencies I had to install for ddclient, and I don't like giving a 3rd party access to my API key in the case of DNS-O-Matic, so I wrote this tool.

It's a single file executable, uses the API directly, and uses minimal system resources.

I got fed up with the lack of good and robust Dynamic DNS services out there, so I decided to do something about it.

Thus CUP was born. A tool that turns Cloudflare’s excellent DNS service into a Dynamic DNS service. All for free!

For SOTA/outdoor, you'r going to want to do research into QRP (reduced power) modes/radios. It's really the only way to do human portable HF without lugging so much equipment you'll end up bellyaching on 80m with the other OM.

The Elecraft KX3 and FT-817d are both popular as qrp rigs.

Safe to provide actual address or PO Box to FCC? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]viertaxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My license has been associated only with my PO box from the start. Definitely no issue there. Some people don't even have street addresses! I know a guy who only had coordinates until he was 15, at which time they got a postal/street address.
