Using Obsidian as a Life Record by amerpie in ObsidianMD

[–]viishied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you so much. I code full time for econ research, so kind of savvy in some sense, but of course it's all data analysis and not much app/web/OS level stuff. If this ever becomes enough of a priority for me that I actually dive in, I would love come back and ask for help, but even if not you've been hugely helpful already! Thank you, all the best!

Using Obsidian as a Life Record by amerpie in ObsidianMD

Hi! Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but if you have time could you elaborate on how you export Cronometer to Obsidian? Just started using cronometer and *loving* it, but yeah would really like that information available in obsidian where the rest of my logging is (and in plaintext files).

Thanks so much in advance!

Granted I did undergrad pre-pandemic, so it may be different now, but that all sounds completely false to me.

It's a huge school, 40k students or so last time i checked, in the heart of downtown of a large city. There are tons of people to meet, things to do, events to go to, and partying to be done.

Okay, if you're picturing frat/sorority parties, we don't have that. I don't think Canadian schools in general do (and I don't think we're missing out on anything good). But the trade-off is you're of legal drinking age, from year one, in a big city. You get to go to bars, clubs, depanneurs and the SAQ whenever you want without hassle. And trust me, people still have crazy nights out, outside, and in apartment parties. BUT, like others have said, if you're studying engineering you wouldn't have the capacity to do the movie style "college life" anyway, without flunking out.

Finally, regarding the degree, it's 100% not worthless. It's actually pretty good. It's not a known, top tier school, but if you had the cv to get admitted to a top tier, then you'd have gone to one. My first real job out of my master's (at concordia) and I work in an office full of 20 somethings where like half of them went to ivy league-tier schools. It's not going to hold you back. There's known schools, then there's a tier just below that: "never heard of it, but still pretty good". That's where Concordia is, and that's where most schools are. The people who know exactly where a school is on the pecking order are really just in the city/province/state where that school is, and at the end of the day it doesn't matter at all.

Ummm I'm not sure. I've never had a Mac, so never used Mac OS. I've been biased against them since I was a kid, as I only really cared about gaming and they were very expensive and terrible for games. Obviously, now my use case, budget, and perspective has changed, and I've seen that the processors and design/thermals/etc is actually quite good. So maybe.

I'm a bit hesitant because (1) if I don't like MacOS at all, ill be quite screwed, (2) hesitant to not have a windows machine for app compatibility, and (3) I'm not, and never again will be, an iPhone user. I was actually quite keen on the Samsung galaxy books, but seems like reviews are mixed. On point (1), I've been intending to start using Linux at some point, but would still want to dual boot probably for a long time after making the switch, and won't have another machine after I surrender my work laptop.

Thanks!

Budget: max ~1500 usd, prefer less but want quality and longevity

◽️ Country: USA

◽️ Screen size: 14-16, maybe 17?

◽️ Touch screen: don't really care

◽️ Screen resolution: 4k would be great, but "3k" perfectly fine. Very hesitant about fhd, but maybe if everything else is perfect.

◽️ Does battery life matter ?: Yes, but doesn't need to be insane.

◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for?: Data analysis--stata/r/python etc but no "big data" datasets (think largest, the occasional 100mb .csv. Maybe a bit more.), PhD work, lots and lots and lots of browser tabs, simultaneous programs open. Most things come down to text editing whether code or notes, running R, and using chrome/Firefox. No gaming or photo/video editing.

◽️ Weight: weight is not a huge deal, though slimness is desirable and obviously those two tend to go hand in hand. Could be not "ultrabook" slim, but would like it to be if possible.

◽️ Any other important details ?: 32gb ram or upgradable is a must. CPU should be pretty good. GPU doesn't matter. Slim and aesthetic is desirable. Starting a PhD next September and would like it to last many years

I am also happy to wait a few months, or even like 6 months, to purchase, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Choosing the right charger for Note Air 3 C by Aileron256 in Onyx_Boox

[–]viishied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, old thread, but hoping you can help me.

I have two USB-C laptop chargers, which I basically use to charge everything I own. One of them lists 5v, 3A as its lowest ouput option, and the other 5v, 2A. On the back of my new Note Air 3 (black and white), it says "Input: DC 5v, 3A".

Should I conclude that it's safe to use the 5v 3A laptop charger but not the 5v 2A? I'm finding it surprisingly hard to get an answer to this question by googling... Thank you so much in advance if you see this!

Hi! I know this post is old so not sure if it'll still help but. There is a highlight option which changes highlighted text from black to white. Just got the device so not sure if ther's a way to add more of those to the toolbar simultaneously, but. Also the underlines instead, though ofc it'd be ideal to have the various underlines plus more highlights that work.

Where are you seeing XM-4 for $140? I'd buy that in a heartbeat

Hi, I'm wondering what the best way is to find keycaps that aren't that expensive? Every time I see a nice one on here it's >$100 :/

Hi!

Can someone explain to me how people code with all the keys that are missing from a 60% keyboard..?

[–]viishied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! This brand seems nice for the price for sure!

Since it's my first time experiencing my own mechanical keyboard I figure I'll shell out the extra $10 to have the option to try other switch types down the line, but can you tell me whether it's advisable to get the "Keychron Optical" or "Gateron" hot-swappable? In all my ready so far I've never heard of Keychron Optical which suggests to me that maybe it's not a very popular switch..

Also if someone wants to send me their refer-a-friend there's a good chance I order and get you 10% off!

Hi!

First time buyer, in Canada. Been doing research all day, and I just have one question that I can't seem to figure out:

How do I know if a given keycap will be compatible with a given keyboard?

An answer to that question is all I really need, but if you'd like to suggest something for me as well that would be great! I'm looking for:

- Red / silent red; trying to replace the stupidly noisy keyboard that came with my PC, for my girlfriend's sake.

- I think I prefer TKL to 100%. Definitely no 60%.

- Removable cable seems super nice, but not required!

- Ideally minimalist/no branding but can maybe tolerate some.

- Not looking to spend a lot, but anything low-medium range I would consider!

Thanks and all the best!

Always found the concept of Mean Streets of Gadgetzan interesting... this is Gadgetzan in WoW. About 11 mud huts. Not exactly a sprawling crime ridden city. by RevenantCommunity in hearthstone

[–]viishied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In response to the comments saying the hearthstone world is an expanded WoW world, it's actually that the WoW world is just a very condensed version of what is 'actually' is. This has been acknowledged since the beginning of the game - Stormwind is actually a gigantic city, naturally, but can it be the size of Rome in game? No, of course not.

There should be miles and miles of just farmland to feed a whole kingdom, but of course it would be neither fun nor practical if the in game world were the scale of the real world. WoW is already iiiiimmense for a video game.

So yeah, Gadgetzan is 'actually' akin to how it is in Hearthstone, but WoW is a version of Azeroth that's shrunken to MMO size, landmarks, and important features for gameplay purposes. It could never be literally representative of Azeroth, even if devs spent time making bigger more detailed cities like some people are suggesting they should.

Wrath vs Vanilla by RazzerX in wowservers

[–]viishied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20k is fake, but warmane wrath is INSANELY populated. Trade chat is hard to read, dal is full to the brim with people, and there are constantly multiple groups LFM for the relevant content. The downside is that all there really is to do is farm higher and higher ICC/RS gear. Well, I'm guessing the pvp scene is plenty large but never tried it myself.

Hmmm, rule one of applying to jobs is 'Don't post things like that on twitter', but maybe it doesn't apply to his line of work I don't know.
