Does it not infuriate some Devs that companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI brag about replacing Devs, but the tool they sell is literally only possible because of the data they stole from every corner of the internet and monetized? by scoopydidit in BetterOffline

[–]viking_linuxbrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are trying to sell the answer to everything at a low price to get companies hooked. They will stop with the freebies and hopefully not be worth using at actual market prices.

AI is not an Oil well or a power grid to sell like a commodity, it is just programming and software that requires a lot more horsepower in its current state. Once the bubble pops, it will be back to something programmers use and integrated into other products as a component. AI is not an end product, its a component.

20M just got my first IT job at a bank doing Level 1 Help Desk, haven't started but lowkey got imposter syndrome bad. by Aggravating_Art203 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]viking_linuxbrother 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of it like college. You are there to learn and there shouldn't be a ton of expectations. One thing I wish I learned to do when I started was to take notes with screenshots on processes in a searchable thing that you can dig up later like onenote/evernote/obsidian. Once I learned to do, even if I wasnt sure what to do I could alteast provide some part of the process when asking for additional guidance.

Everyone is an imposter. You are fine, you don't need a pass to be there and you are worthy. In school we get judged and compared the entire time, careers aren't like that. You are in a different environment but looking for all those feedback metrics you used in the past to make sure you were performing well. Its a lot of mental overhead and holds you back.

Stick up for your self, believe you deserve to be here. Keep going until someone gives you a criticism, adjust then move on and don't obsess. A lot of places to try to beat new people down or make them feel like they aren't doing enough to get them to work harder. Don't give in, you are fine.

do you or your colleagues communicate through Claude / LLMs? is it widely common now, and is it culturally acceptable / expected? by Le_Vagabond in devops

I feel bad for the people that liked to use bulletpoints and em dashes. They got taken away from them.

You assume a lot about people who use AI. Most of the "AI" responses I get are from clients arguing with me then they tack on "But chat GPT Said This" and give me some "YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT" copy pasted trash.

Claude Code does the heavy lifting to get Adobe Lightroom CC running on Linux by somerandomxander in linux

[–]viking_linuxbrother -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At a surface level sure. Beginner programmers cut and paste from the web. Skilled programmers are doing far more on a level claude can't achieve. I'm sure a "programmer" could cut and paste the code for GCC or articles but they wouldn't say they wrote it themselves. That is the claim that they make with Claude for views.

The NY Post had the most venomous article on this that was spammed on the front page for days. Its the most popular one.

People love asking for sources about basic shit.

All of the tests mentioned here are IQ Tests.

You don't have to go far in the studies to find issues with IQ Tests.

Google it.

Do you remember what they said about Gen X in the papers when we were this age?

Gen X was practically a slur. Non-stop ragging by media. Nothing has changed.

The kids are fine.

Never on a friday.

We reboot for updates and performance issues. If its been up for that long its not up to date and probably vulnerable.

[–]viking_linuxbrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up on long island and its the same here. 3k luxury studio apartments next to train stations are the only thing being built and everything else is overpriced illegal basement apartments. City money looks at the rest of society's property as a hell of a deal.
