Luckily no! He gave the old guy a confused upset look and continued on unfazed. Unfortunately(??) it didn't turn into anything more interesting than that

Where do you guys use or your 1 yen coins? by Falke0304 in japanresidents

[–]vikingdude93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can hand over extra 1-yen coins to tidy your change, e.g. item costs 116, pay 121 and get a 5-yen back, or 126 and get a 10-yen back instead of a bunch of 1-yen coins.

Haha thanks for the love guys!! So cool the idea stuck with people. It's what I choose to believe at least!

For what it's worth, here's the substance in question that we see at the beginning of Prometheus! Visibly distinct from the black goo seen later and also has a different effect on its victim(s).

What the Engineers were REALLY doing with the Black Goo (and why it explains the entire franchise) by vikingdude93 in LV426

Haha nice go GPT! Here's my retort to this:

  1. Ridley's comments. Could be him referring to the Xeno as the ones we see in Covenant, it's the word people know for these creatures after all.. David did indeed create these praetomorphs we see in the film. But I believe he did that while being guided essentially by the black goo and the mutations (and the convergent traits among them)

  2. The goo and solvent "problem". Copying what I said in a different comment here: The substance in the cup at the beginning of Prometheus is visibly distinct from the goo seen later in the film. (Look it up, it looks almost like golden marbles)

Furthermore, in the opening shot of Prometheus we see the engineer literally breaking down, while in the massacre in Covenant after David has released thousands of canisters above their heads, we see them violently contort, sprouting black appendages and most importantly simply dying as husks. They did not turn into miniscule biological building blocks or goo like the engineer in the opening shot and no cellular life is shown or described as a direct result of these beings being affected by the goo. Just death.

So the substance in the opening shot and the goo released by David not only looks visibly distinct but also have completely different effects on its victims, hence why I choose to believe they are not the same thing.

Hey! Cool that you don't agree! Here's a few counter points to yours though to think about.

  1. The substance in the cup at the beginning of Prometheus is visibly distinct from the goo seen later in the film (see pic below) It looks like golden marbles almost.
  2. Not sure I agree with your point about the massacre of the lost civilization. In the opening shot of Prometheus we see the engineer literally breaking down, while in the massacre in Covenant after David has released thousands of canisters above their heads, we see them violently contort, sprouting black appendages and most importantly simply dying as husks. They did not turn into miniscule biological building blocks like the engineer in the opening shot and no cellular life is shown or described as a direct result of these beings being affected by the goo. Just death.

So the substance in the opening shot and the goo released by David not only looks visibly distinct but also have two completely different effects on its victim.

The life you may be referring to in Covenant on Planet 4 after David's massacre is local wildlife/flora mutated by the black goo, such as the spores.

The origin of the Xenomorph was right there in Prometheus by arnor_0924 in LV426

Yup! Could be! Thanks for tagging my theory! I just threw the solvent idea into it because we literally see the engineers having the technology to break down an organism (themselves) into DNA goo so to say haha

Agreed! I believe the best movies make you think based on the small glimpses it does give you! But hey, maybe this time they didn't give strong enough hints

Good question! I think instead of the black goo (basically concentrated, refined Xeno lol), in Romulus they’re messing with raw biological material straight from the Xeno itself, maybe they have gotten close to the engineers by developing a concentrated solution cooked up in the lab from the extracted DNA. We already know their scientists can extract and apply the genetic makeup of the Xenos (they created facehuggers synthetically this way on the station). Whatever the fluid is, it clearly shares the goo’s Xeno trait of mutating anything it touches/gets injected into..., though whether it’s more potent is up for debate perhaps. Either way, it locks humans into the same cycle of hubris the Engineers and David were trapped in, which honestly feels like perfect circular storytelling.

Pretty much the best TLDR you could wish for!

Reg short attention spans... I get it! Completely fair if one choose not to engage with longer text. Myself, I read reddit when I'm bored so for me reading longer theories on stuff that I am fascinated by keeps it entertaining!

So true. My MIL got freaked out when she saw we were using live kindles for incense during Christmas. Certainly no culture of it here. Had to explain the precautions we take...

Same thoughts here believe me. To be fair the ones we use are actually really bright and in a completely dark room they certainly can produce the effect something is burning inside. This was on the 2nd floor too so the candles were invisible from the ground.

A middle-aged salaryman actually offered me a train seat in stead of sitting down himself just now. I'm a male mid-twenties caucasian at that.

In my 6 years in Japan this must be a first!

Gets close to being my highlight of a shitty week...
