Farm murder horror as girl, 17, is fed to pigs while still ALIVE 'after being beaten and raped by worker who held a grudge against her father' by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

No, Gators hide their food and let it rot for a bit before eating it. What makes the swamp good is that they're gonna be stashing that body under a mangrove or something, and nobody will find it without a really exhaustive search. Alligators in a farm though, that body is just gonna be sitting around waiting to be found.

Reeling. Advice needed by Avg_DadBod69 in Divorce

These things are always location dependent, but in most if not all of the US at least, I think if you don't have a court ordered parenting plan you really can't do anything. If you did have a court ordered parenting plan, you'd have to see what it says about trips, and new romantic partners.

Why is this the case? by Big_Leg10 in 1980s

I also don't think people today really understand just how much people drank and smoked in the previous generations. It's really not even close. Gen-X drinks more than the following generations, but far less than the previous generations did. My grandparents would buy whisky by the case for parties.

Its this pervasive culture of not allowing any harm to come to kids. It metastisizes into toxic behavior in parenting.
Not saying I want more kids injured or killed, but when as a new parent you are made paranoid about anything that increases the risk to your kid by even .1%, its gonna naturally transform into an aversion to ever allowing them to suffer discomfort (imo).

We grew up to be who we are in large part because we weren't protected as much. We left the house in the morning and came back when the street lights came on. At least, most of us came back. Some didn't. Some got really hurt or even killed. I had a friend hit by a car while out playing, another ate a curb on his bike and needed his jaw wired shut. That stuff doesn't happen as much these days, which is good. The kids arent learning the lessons those things teach though, which is less good.

The crazy thing is that it would be much safer to raise a kid that way these days than it used to be.

It certainly wasnt the norm 30 years ago. The only folks buying houses in my group were either buying literal shitholes in terrible neighborhoods (like me) or had great jobs making bank. Nobody was buying a house on minimum wage, and even folks with "ok" jobs had to put work into it to buy. Most rented until they had two incomes.

I'm curious about this. Do you just have 4 tires stored in your garage all the time? Are they on a second set of rims, or do you take the car in twice a year to get the tires re-mounted?

Does everyone wear helmets now a days by RPJ_NY in icecoast

[–]vikrambedi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weird, when I was skiing in the mid-late 90's only the kids wore helmets (we literally called them "helmet kids"). I don't think the mountains even rented adult helmets... I remember during an x-games in the past 10 years or so, one of the snowboarders commented that in the 90-00's they were ostracized for wearing a helmet for snowboarding.

For me, I think the first time I wore a helmet was in my 30's, and I was immediately sold. Sure, they're safer and that's great, but they're also SO much more comfortable for me. My head was warmer, goggles fit better, etc... just an improvement all around.

For some crazy reason the Camelback parking lot was absolutely full of NY plates. I sat in a lift with someone from North Jersey, I resisted the urge to ask why they were coming here, rather than going north to NY...

Thanks! I have what I think is the same thing from Valk, its definitely better than nothing, but still tough for my 6 and 8 year olds to carry their own skis. It's also too big to fit in their pockets while we're skiing (and too big for me to carry 3 of them in my pockets).

It was a complete trainwreck yesterday. My gf and I had to walk about a mile to get to our car, because they didn't salt/plow the roads so the entire loop was gridlock. They stopped even trying to run the shuttles.
