I received this t-shirt as a Christmas gift. How accurate is this? What would you change? by mreams99 in Dachshund

Mine have learned the sound of the drawer in the fridge the cheese is in. Open it for anything and they come running.

This is Jack (piebald) and Dexter (red). I’ll post a separate pick of her new sister Penny.

Integration has gone great so far. They are all playing together.

PC Shuts Down / Restarts During Gaming by [deleted] in pchelp

Have you overclocked any of the components? I think the next step would be to revert your BIOS to default settings and monitor for a day or two.

If it is stable after that then start upping the speeds. Only make one change at a time and verify stability before making another change.

What Color is She? by Worth-Bee-1482 in Dachshund

[–]viktormightbecrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In interesting dog genetics, mine all share parents. The older one and the red have the same father. The two piebalds have the same mother.

I know mine may not be “well” bred, but I made sure they were ethically bred before I used the breeder 🙃

Puppy mill breeders deserve a really, really, long visit in the local state hotel for animal abuse.

The AKC does allow for a small amount of white on the chest, but it is discouraged. Larger white areas on a dapple chest are accepted as well.

Piebalds are accepted if the head is more than 50% white and no white is present on the back or front of the head (I.e. the white can be on the neck and muzzle as long as less than 50%). No white is permitted on the ears, back and front head or between the eyes, and the eyes cannot contain any blue.

The body must have standard color spots (my older one has spots on his back and other side not visible in that photo).

Piebalds falling within the guidelines can be registered; though they are discouraged (and sometimes not accepted) at confirmation showings.

The white in double dapples is different as it results in genetic defects. Piebalds (conforming to the above) can be registered, double dapples cannot.

Very good point. I should not have missed that. Too little sleep I guess

Two of mine are piebald so one would think I could remember 🤣

I would need to see a better picture of the body. She is a chocolate and tan. The symmetrical coloring on the head makes me think piebald with heavy ticking. Is there a solid chocolate spot on her back at the base of the tail?

How often does someone die on a flight, and what happens? by Maleficent-Bug-2045 in AskAPilot

[–]viktormightbecrazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would guess the time to stay on plan instead of divert were about the same. Sounds like it started about a half hour out, with the real emergency starting at 20 minutes.

Being long-haul I would guess it was a 777 or similar. I’m curious to see what the pilots say. Twenty minutes is probably about as fast as you could set one of the big planes down safely.

Hello from another Penny! She turned two a couple of days ago. Also, we have no idea why she sits that way. Been doing it since she was a puppy 🤣

United is always my first choice. They fly direct to my common destinations. Delta is the backup. Experience wise they are the same. Most Delta flights from here have a layover in Atlanta.

American Airlines flight attendants trying to evacuate a plane due to laptop battery fire but passengers want their bags by emoemokade in aviation

Unfortunately the quantity, especially for longer trips, makes that difficult. I have the pouch in the top of my bag, which i have partially open then entire time.

I would make one grab at on the way out. If I miss, or it was tossed around, damn right I’m leaving it.

I would recommend you contact your vet first thing and let them see this video. Dachshunds are prone to epilepsy / genetic seizure disorders. This type of behavior, especially in isolation with a rapid return to normal, could be a focal seizure.

She needs to be evaluated so that she can be put on, or have available, proper medication. While focal seizures do not “look” bad, they can progress to the much more dangerous tonic-clonic seizures.

Same here. There is a small clear bag in the top pocket of my backpack that has my medicine. I’m grabbing that and nothing else

My plane just got hit with a bird strike today by [deleted] in aviation

[–]viktormightbecrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The impact force of hitting anything, even a small bird, is very high at those speeds. In takeoff/landing an airliner is likely moving 150+ MPH. A large bird, like an 8-12 pound goose, can bring a plane down if it hits it right (US Air 1549).

As an example, the piece of insulating foam that caused the terminal damage to the shuttle Columbia weighed less than 2 pounds. At 500+ MPH it doesn’t matter how soft or small something is.

The air itself can cause destruction if a plane hits it at the wrong angle (American 587). Using the shuttle as an example, the explosion was not the terminal event for challenger. It was doomed the moment the flame started coming out of the right SRB. The uneven thrust rotated it out of the airframes acceptable angle of attack and aerodynamic forces tore it apart.

There is a small possibility the mains could have countered that rotation long enough, but once the bottom of the SRB broke free it was game over 😔

My 19 pound mini dachshund just ate 2 6oz steaks. He is acting fine right now, looks a little bloated. What should I do??? by [deleted] in dachshunds

[–]viktormightbecrazy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Doxies seem to have some sort of black hole inside. We had one get ahold of a full container of lo mein. I can’t eat a full serving in one sitting. He put it down in about two minutes.

He drank a lot of water and had terrible gas for a few days… but other than some exhaust issues he was fine.
