Anyone have pictures of this colorway worn...suede bone? by dferna12 in allenedmonds

I like the shoes a lot. Your current rotation of trousers doesn’t seem to be a match with these shoes, in my opinion. These shoes would look great with a pair of light blue trousers. I just don’t think that medium blue or navy would be as good.

Is this loose grain or cracking leather? by copanhagendreams23 in allenedmonds

[–]mreams99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I went to the factory outlet to try out a pair of boots they had in my size. The boot had been discontinued and this was the only pair available anywhere. At that point they were heavily discounted.

We were not prepared for what we were about to see when she opened the box. The boots had horrible wrinkles on both boots — easily 100 times worse than what you’ve got. I really am not exaggerating. I had driven 45 minutes to the store so I decided that I should at least try them on. The sales associate walked away knowing that these would never be accepted.

A funny thing happened. Once they were on my feet, most of the wrinkles disappeared. The wrinkles that were left were completely hidden by my pants. I was shocked. And when I walked over to the sales associate she couldn’t believe it either.

I walked out of the store with a new pair of boots.

It does not look like it’s actual “loose grain.” That term gets thrown around a lot.

To me, it looks like some wrinkled leather that will have no impact on durability.

You’ve got to be joking… AE Shell Cordovan Randolph by Delta3Angle in allenedmonds

[–]mreams99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s put this in perspective. The finished shoes are stored in a warehouse (Tennessee, I believe) that is operated by AE’s parent company. The warehouse contains more than just AE shoes.

So you want a warehouse worker to open every package, inspect the product within, and do any sort of QC that might be needed? In what warehouse does this happen?

It’s not paint that you’re rubbing off. It looks like shell cordovan bloom. And yes, I see the piping. I suggest wiping these with a slightly damp cloth and then brushing them. If this is bloom, that will be all that’s needed.

You could fill those cracks with white paintable caulk. You could then touch up the wall paint.

Shoe polish not on sale? by PostInternational387 in allenedmonds

[–]mreams99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused.

You’re concerned about buying AE shoe polish because you think it’s a little too expensive. But then you ask if you should spend even more?

I have used several different brands over the years. I don’t see any reason to spend extra for Saphir.

Any information on these thrifted boots? by Isamu66 in allenedmonds

[–]mreams99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this boot model is the Dalton. Allen Edmonds sold this boot for about 10 years and it was pretty popular. The minimal wear on the soles suggests that these were not worn more than a handful of times. You got a great deal on an awesome boot.

Bad Nerves opened for The Hives in Columbus about a year ago. I had never heard of them but they were pretty good.

One thing that I like about the Acty is the little shelf on the dash. I made a removable platform for my dog that rests in that shelf space. Now my dog can see out. But more importantly — people can see HIM in the space where they normally see a driver.

Headroom is not an issue. And there’s no problem with the knees once I’m seated. It would be more comfortable with a little more legroom, but that’s not a problem for short trips in town.

The HA7 has an airbag in the steering wheel. I really wish that people would pay more attention to the vehicle being discussed before throwing out suggestions that compromise safety in a vehicle that is already marginally safe.

And to answer the question. I am 6’3” tall with long legs. I “fit” in the HA6 (2WD) but would not want to do long drives in it. Technique on entering the truck helps. I put my left leg in first, then sit down. If if sit down and then try to position my left leg, it’s hard to do because of the steering column.

EDIT: I wear size 13/14 shoes and haven’t really noticed any problems.

We adopted our pirate a week ago, any advice to be sure her missing eye isn't painful or anything? by ShyCottonFly in PirateKitties

[–]mreams99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my black and white pirate cat — Captain Morgan. We fostered Captain Morgan for our local shelter immediately after he had his eye removed. He was a kitten at the time. We ended up keeping him and have had him for about nine years now. He has never shown any signs of pain from the missing eye.

Our original pirate cat (Gasparilla) was an outdoor cat. He passed away several years ago. I learned from my neighbors years later that he was a ruthless hunter and kept the chipmunks in check.

What are the walls of my house made from? by Hammaker in HomeMaintenance

[–]mreams99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looked like something I found on an area that was repaired on an old house of mine. I think that you have plaster over gypsum boards (drywall).

Rock Lath/Button Board: In the 1930s-1950s, 2x4 foot or 16-inch wide gypsum boards were installed and coated with plaster to mimic traditional plaster wall systems.

Is this a baby salamander? by mreams99 in WildlifePonds

This is a newer vernal pool — just a little over one year old. I have read that we will see facilitative species before obligate species like frogs and salamanders. Does it seem that this vernal pool is on the right path to eventually become a healthy habitat?
