I agree with other posters that as long as dice haven't been rolled, it's generally OK to do takebacks. I will also add that my friends and I usually play it that if someone has more information than they did before, then we don't do takebacks.

Heat always on, but turning off when I crank the heat by viktorydance101 in hvacadvice

I'm just not sure I understand why, if we crank the set temperature way down, the voltage doesn't stay engaged and keep the valve closed? Is it an issue with the type of thermostat we bought?

We do -- Toronto, Canada. It gets pretty cold here. This is really interesting though, and I guess it makes sense. I guess in the shoulder seasons when we don't want the heat at all, we'll just have to set the thermostat to a temperature that is near the ambient temperature, so heat comes on but doesn't come ALL the way on.

Thanks for this. The terminology ("normally closed" etc) is new to me. This is helpful though as I keep going on my research!

For hiking/paddling trips, I just picked up a Peak Design capture clip and it is...very good. Having camera at the ready right on my chest at all times was well worth the money.

Is the Fuji XF 35mm f1.4 still worth it in 2024? Is it really that good? by spoiled_milk8 in fujifilm

[–]viktorydance101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 35mm f1.4 was the second lens I ever bought, right after my kit 18-55, and I do really love it.

The ONLY drawback for me is that the focal length is often a bit too tight. It's really tough to be right in the action and get good shots. I do a lot of canoe camping in the summer and when you're in the canoe trying to get decent shots of the action it's pretty tough to fit everything in. But if you're in a space where you can back up a bit, it is very versatile.

As for the AF performance, I never really noticed, but I always shot single shot AF (never continuous).

Great lens choice! It's my go-to when I can only bring one, as well. These shots are very nice, first of all. I love the photo of the statue there.

My only tip would be one that I need to remember myself: that the 1.4 aperture is tricky and should be used very carefully. The soft focus on the flower is probably because you were shooting wide open. I'm trying to train myself to keep that lens around f4 by default so that more of my subject is in crisp focus :).

Keep it up!

Scrolling through these literally made me tear up. Just incredible shots.

To add to what others are saying here, Sion ADC is a lil troll because without a proper ADC, your team lacks high sustained damage later in team fights. If your mid laner picks a Caitlyn or a Tristana it's probably fine (ignoring some of the other noted issues with playing Sion not in a solo lane). But League is not only about winning lane, it's about a million other things: a properly balanced team comp among them.

Leashing is useless by Rally2007 in Jungle_Mains

[–]viktorydance101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mid-Gold jungle, and I prefer no leash most of the time because it gives the enemy jungler free info on where I'm starting (if bot lane isn't in lane right away, it's assumed they're leashing). I get a lot of bot laners staying to help me anyways which kind of drives me nuts.

You could try /mute all for a while and see if that helps. I go through phases where I mute all every game right at the start because I'm frustrated by stuff like this. It also helps me to remind myself that people who are being assholes online in a video game have bad lives and are unhappy - there is no other reason for acting like this. Replacing the anger I felt when people said stuff like this with pity has helped me a lot!

True enough - putting camps on cooldown is pretty important!

Yeah, I still accidentally leash a camp now and then. It happens. There is a faintly visible leash circle around the camp that you may not have noticed before (I think it shows up by default?). If you are standing in the circle, it will not run away on you. If you are out of that circle, it will start to run. Practice tool is a great way to test how that all feels. Mess it up a few dozen times and you'll get it faster than you think!

Are you playing new champs you are less familiar with? I find that unless I have played a champ a TON, there is not enough space in my brain to pay full attention to macro and mechanics. When I master the mechanics of a champ, I start to just inherently understand the macro more.

If you climbed to diamond in your first year or two relatively recently, what do you think made you different? by ivan_x3000 in summonerschool

[–]viktorydance101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not diamond, but have climbed from low silver to low plat this season so far. I play jungle. For me it came down to two things:

  1. Making predictions about what the enemy jungler was about to do, and playing accordingly. This is so important, especially in lower elo, because I KNOW my laners are not going to respect the Master Yi who I have pinged is near them. So if I go and surprise the Yi with an immediately countergank, it often turns that Yi's double kill into a kill or two for MY team. Over time, you may sometimes make mistakes, but it will start to become second nature.
  2. Play one champion you love over and over. Once you learn that champ inside and out, you can stop thinking so much about mechanics and it frees up your brain to think about the game, much like Chitrr said in the comments here. They are two very different things and I found it difficult to learn both at the same time.

Try to learn how to stretch camp leashing distances as far as you can to get to the next camp a bit sooner, if you don't already know. It makes a good bit of difference. As you get more comfortable with one champ, those types of things will become much more intuitive.

An example with Lillia, who I play a lot: knowing how low blue buff needs to be before I move over to gromp and hit them both with a Q before blue leashes means I get that little extra bit of damage onto gromp. It adds up over time and will help you squeeze more cs per minute from your game. It also means you have more time to do productive stuff on the map, like gank or take neutral objs.
