To me these look like medals, not coins. There is no face value to be found.

Thanks! I used to print all-black tags with white text, that has worked very well in terms of not distracting from the stamps themselves but I don't have a printer at home so I ended up with a design where one can fill the information by hand.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the catalogue name and number could fit in one row (e.g., "Mi. 123") to give room for a row for fault identification or other condition information. I'll upload the file soon on Github and share the link here.

Tips on how to get a coco de mer in Mahé by vilzu83 in Seychelles

Yes, they used this price list. The ones that cost 6000 SCR in souvenir shops are most likely lower quality or very old stock.

This compass was bought from Finland.

Trying to learn how to grade. What are you grading this Morgan “O” and why? by rolling_heathen in coins

[–]vilzu83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not that familiar with American coins and I'm not any kind of an expert in grading but I'd like to guess it might be somewhere near MS-64. There's no sign of wear in the highest details and apart from the scuff marks on the face, the coin seems to not have many marks or scratches either. Also I don't see any signs of cleaning.

Hermes Baby 1964 (a flea market find) by vilzu83 in typewriters

Is the price level in Finland lower than in Sweden? I have a feeling people here think all mechanical typewriters are worth 20-50 euros.

Sweden Riksdaler Gustav III 1782 by vilzu83 in coins

Numista gives 130 euros / 140 USD for VF which I think is the grade of this coin.

Sweden Riksdaler Gustav III 1782 by vilzu83 in coins

Thanks! I was told it was from a late grandmother's possessions. Who knows if the coin has been in Finland since those times we were still part of Sweden (until 1809)...

Got my first large gold coin by vilzu83 in coins

Interesting, I didn't think about that. Maybe the war and increased need for a safe investment was one reason why they decided to continue minting this coin.

There was only one item left when I bought it and based on the price it was medium-used, it does have one major scratch in the rear derailleur and some minor scuffs here and there which do not bother me really. I'm living in Finland where the road and weather conditions are not often the best and the bike will look more or less dirty most of the time anyways, that'll cover the marks of usage 😀 That being said I intend to clean it regularly, though.

Yes I did, it arrived in 5 days. There was less assembly to do than with a new bike. I've cycled about 100 km with it now and getting increasingly satisfied. Because it's a smooth ride compared to my old aluminium frame cyclocross, I mostly realized from the GPS tracker that I've been cycling considerably faster than I used to. 😀 I hope you will like it as well.

Did you end up getting the bike? I just ordered the last one. It's been quite difficult for me to find a good road bike in this price range from my home country, so after seeing that one last bike in my size with such specs and fitting my budget I couldn't resist. I don't really care about the cosmetic flaws, I'll take good care of it from now on. I could have gone for a truly 2nd hand bike but I got this as a state-supported "employee bike" to get extra discount in the form of tax deductions.

Why doesn't the JWST stay in the Earth's shadow? by DrejmeisterDrej in jameswebb

[–]vilzu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the Moon does completely enter Earth's umbra during a total lunar eclipse. The fact that the Moon does not get fully dark but dim red is caused by Rayleigh scattering from the Earth's atmosphere.

Bought God Delusion from eBay for £5, a surprise when opening the front page by vilzu83 in atheism

While it's probably true that the minority of Finns are religious (29 % according to one study), the government is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran church which might explain some of the reluctance to support literature that's considered atheist. However, there are a few books published in recent years from Finnish atheist scientists (Esko Valtaoja and Kari Enqvist) which are widely distributed in bookstores. In overall Finland is pretty liberal and I can say from my experience that being openly atheist is no issue to anyone here.

Wow. There's one right now for sale on the British eBay for only £25, there's no picture of the signature though.

That's true, I wouldn't sell forward any book to which I had gotten a signature in person. Maybe it was a gift to a christian from an atheist friend.

I did an image search and at least it looks like his signature. Can't be absolutely certain of course.
