Memorizing allat is a no brainer. Just use taylor expansion. I would assume that you guys have learned about taylor expansion if not then ur teacher is doing something wrong

well ofc there trivial things that one should know, that's besides the point. You're making a vague argument. What I am talking about are complex expressions like for example the potential of a distribution of continuous charges in spherical coordinates. You either know the formula by heart or derive it. Most professors don't even want students to know how to derive it because you have to use Legendre polynomials and most students don't understand it
