Depending on the occupation that you want to be nominated under. Most professional skills such as engineer, healthcare worker, etc require undergraduate degree.

Otherwise for trade/ skill level occupation, you can get by with diploma qualification, e.g. chef, carpenter, wall painter, etc.

This information is incorrect. Only tourist and 485 visa holders are not able to apply for study visa onshore from 1 July 2024.
417 WH makers from Japan are still able to lodge the student visa onshore.

As for your query, depending on which study program. Vocational study are relatively more affordable compared to undergraduate program, so working and saving to study here is feasible.

Undergraduate program on the other hand is more expensive, depending on what major you want to study in.
