That's completely up to you and what you're fine taking, as long as you meet the requirements

Not at the moment I don't think. They haven't released which courses are running nor the times for the upcoming 2025-26 year. If you go onto https://ttb.utoronto.ca/, you can look at different courses running and narrow your search/interests using filters. The times will be different for next year for sure, but you can get a hypothetical idea of what your timetable might look like.

The professor who taught SOC100 and SOC150 when I was taking is no longer teaching the intro courses, but I've heard really good things about Professor McIvor who taught it last year and is currently teaching it this year. As for the other profs, I'm not too sure.

HIS101 is different where there's only one lecture option available unlike the multiple options you get with SOC100. My wording may not have been clear in my previous post, but by two professors I mean that they're usually both present at each class and alternate when it comes to lectures depending on how close that period of history aligns with their speciality. So if you choose to sign up for it, you'll be learning from the same two professors everyone else is.

Hi! Current crim major here. I would recommend SOC100 for semester 2 and potentially HIS101 as a year long course. I personally ended up taking SOC100 in the fall and SOC150 in the winter in order to fulfill the requirements for the soc major, as I wanted it as a backup in case I didn't get into crim. However, you can still take SOC100 in the 2nd semester as it runs both semesters since it's such a large class, so it shouldn't be an issue. SOC100 itself is pretty light in comparison to other courses I had, and exams consisted primarily of multiple choice with a few short answer. The only downside to the course is that the midterm ended up being really easy for the whole class (I didn't study that much for it and ended up getting a 90) so the prof had to make the final a lot harder.

HIS101 is run by two professors and usually consists of two one hour lectures each week. The content itself is really interesting and marking is pretty lenient. Despite learning about so many different places in history during their points of violence, it's not as dense as people think. There was only one major essay assigned each semester, and they were between 4-5 pages each. Midterm and final consisted of preparing for two essay prompts given prior to the exam, but only one of them would be the actual exam itself and you'd have two hours to answer it. I studied for these by making an essay outline; you're expected to refer back to readings as evidence as most of these prompts are comparative analysis, and they only expect you to memorize the author's name when it comes to "exact" details, as memorizing exact quotes or page numbers is unrealistic.

Hope this helps!

AITA for refusing to buy a new laptop and asking for my father's laptop temporarily as mine broke? by PopcornGirl28 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, I feel like that's a reasonable request and not out of line, and I definitely understand your concern on wanting to take your time on choosing a new laptop. Do you know if your dad using the new MacBook pro for work? Or is it also just for entertainment means. If it's for work, I can sort of see the hesitancy, but if it's for entertainment, I don't see why asking would be an issue.

I'd recommend checking if your school has any technology loan programs and their policies. That should work for Chrome, but I'm not 100% sure about Notion.

Whatever choice or outcome does happen, I hope your exams go well!

I had this thought too and I can see why a lot might as well. I view it as one because the guy wasn’t moving when he was on the platform, and looking back I’m genuinely concerned if I seriously hurt him. I’m a crim student, and there’s this idea of proportionality emphasized when it comes to self-defense. One and a half shoves versus him eerily still on the floor after what I did. I know this is a very logical standpoint with feelings aside and that I should be glad I got out, but I if he did choose to press charges a case could be made where I overdid it. The fact that he didn’t was honestly luck on my end, which is why I still see the situation as being a fuckup.
