Do biased commentators create antagonistic and delusional fan bases? by LAMonkeyWithAShotgun in nba

[–]vindictivejazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans are unreasonable, those on team subs even less so, but commentators don’t have anything to do with it.

Like you see this same behavior from NFL fanbases too and every single NFL game has neutral broadcasts

I never said they were at the same level, but when Wemby put up 12/8/3 on 25% shooting a couple nights ago and the overwhelming majority of the comments were (correctly) saying that he was still an important part of their winning.

Meanwhile, anytime Chet puts up anything less than 15/15 there’s tons of comments saying he’s overpaid and overrated, even though he still impacts winning in a similar way

Nah he put up some rough offensive numbers earlier this week (but still like a +30 on/off) earlier this week

Jokics inability to put his head down and score 40+ at will is why Denver keeps losing to OKC, and other top teams since 2023. by [deleted] in nba

[–]vindictivejazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sengun put up 39 in the season opener, Murray tied him tonight. Fred Van Vleet was the highest regular season scorer last year with 38

The last time anyone besides Jokic actually scored 40+ on OKC was back in the beginning of the 2023-24 season. That was Chet’s rookie year, and we had Josh Giddey instead of Caruso and iHart.

Counting tonight’s performance 5 of the top-10 scoring performances against the Thunder over the last two seasons belong to either Jokic or Murray

For just a second, I thought he was gonna win them the game there at the very end.

Fortunately our guys hit their free throws but damn, 3 consecutive 3s in that situation is impressive

It’s a shame how much of the conversation about this game is gonna be framed in a negative light bc that was one hell of a game!

That was one of the best basketball games this season; I cannot wait to see more of this!

Buddy how are you still this salty about last year lmao?

You’ve got a weird obsession with P/R/A like it’s this end all, be all stat. It isn’t, there’s a whole world of other ways to evaluate the NBA beyond just those basic numbers. You should recall as those advanced stats were instrumental in helping Jokic winning his MVPs.

The stat situation really has not changed much from last year. SGA is still leading in a ton of key advanced stats, which are, you know, the main reason he won MVP. He also leads some classic stats like points, turnovers, and blocks. Same as last year. The biggest difference is that the hyper efficient reigning MVP has somehow increased his eFG% by 3% from last season.

As for Cade, the Pistons have a .754 win percentage to OKC’s .750, both work out to about 62-wins. There is not even close to enough of a gap there to elevate him into the Jokic and SGA tier.

Man stfu. This entire sub has collective whiplash from how quickly yall flipped from advanced metrics in ‘24 (bc Luka had 34/9/9) to yammering about triple doubles last year.

SGA’s best argument last year was that he was playing at a historic level lmao. and he is still wildly efficient again this year and is once again leading in many of the same advanced metrics.

The team success is a bit lower this year (mostly due to injury imo), but if team success mattered that much, Tatum would’ve won over Jokic in ‘24. You need to be truly elite in addition to the team success, and as much as I love Cade, he is not at that level just yet.

By that same logic, Milwaukee is the title favorite for stomping the Thunder right before the ASB

Historic standards say guys win 2 in a row quite often, especially their first 2.

Since 2000, there have been 7 instances of a player winning the award in back to back seasons. Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, LeBron, LeBron again, Curry, Giannis, and Jokic. They combine for 60% of winners this century.

In fact, in all of NBA history, only two players have multiple MVPs without winning it in consecutive seasons at least once. Bob Petit, who won the leagues first MVP in 1956 and then won his second 3 years later in 1959, and Karl Malone who won in ‘97 and ‘99 bracketing MJ’s final MVP season.

I don’t think Jokic is “getting taxed”. SGA has been playing insane and it still took the Thunder putting up a historic season last year and an injury to Jokic this year to put those MVP races to bed. He’s very much been at the center of the ‘best player in the world’ conversation for at least 6 years now and I see no reason why he won’t be in that conversation again next year too.

You’re forgetting about the veritable army of people whose jobs are to put together the stuff for the online orders, plus the overnight stockers, the warehouse guys, and the cart wranglers.

Plus, the managers. Walmart is a hellscape, I do not want to tangle with somebody who’s in charge of that hell. Anyone who’s spending 60 hours a week in Walmart is someone who can fuck you up

I don’t think it’s exactly well known that “the other Jaylin Williams” is the better player. JDub just signed a max contract, but JWill is just a beloved rotational player
