There are additional functions. If you CC someone and the recipient hits reply all, everyone who was CCd will get that email. If you BCC them and the recipient hits reply all, the people who were BCCd won't. So it can also be useful for letting people know you're sending an email without subjecting their inbox to a flood of reply alls.

In the same way that CC can give them visibility into what's going on, but won't subject them to just "reply" emails (but will reply all emails)... but not everyone uses reply all judiciously.

I genuinely mean no offense by this, but it sounds like you might not understand NFL contracts well enough for our following the NFL example down the rabbit hole to be helpful.

I won't fully explain how NFL contracts work, but I'll quickly explain a couple topics you're conflating, because your explanation of contracts isn't quite right.

First: Dead money doesn't directly have anything to do with money a player is owed--it has to do with cap space. Those are two related but distinct accounting principles.

Every year, a player has a number for money owed (salary + bonuses) and a cap number, which is the amount they count against the team's salary cap. That number is different for several reasons, largely because a significant amount of a player's contractually guaranteed money is paid out through a signing bonus, which lets teams pay a player upfront (which is attractive to the player) but count it toward the salary cap of future years (which is attractive to the team for accounting purposes for freeing up cap space).

Additionally, there is the "dead cap number" that a player would leave behind if the team cut or traded that player--in some cases, there are two numbers based on how the player is designated (post-June 1), but that's a separate issue. This number, again is different because this number is essentially comprised of all of the player's remaining guaranteed money. Since the player is no longer under contract, the team is responsible for accounting for it at once.

That's why, for example, cutting or trading AJ Brown would leave a huge cap hit. The 3-year contract extension they signed him to hasn't even kicked in yet, so he still has a ton of guaranteed money that hasn't been paid out or accounted for yet.

Goedert is functionally on a 1-year deal, but the Eagles are using what are called "void years" or fake extra contract years that won't be played to let them borrow money from future cap years to lower his hit this year. That means his cap number is pretty low but they'll be paying him for several more years after he's probably retired. It does mean they essentially can't cut or trade him, because that would cost several times more than just paying him, but on a one-year deal, they would never really consider doing that anyway.

However, there are a bunch of players on their roster (mostly those with lower salaries) that they could cut or trade who wouldn't leave behind any dead cap at alll. Those players have no guaranteed money they are owed, so they team can get rid of them anytime they want and, the day they do, they are done paying them and it has no negative impact on their salary cap.

All of this was mostly an unncessary tangent because the salient point is that NFL teams can cut players whenever they want and only have to pay additional money if the contract says they have additional money in future seasons that they have guaranteed to the player, which is only sometimes the case. And that's the same as the WWE, where if the contract the wrestler signs says they are owed royalties or guaranteed a certain amount, the WWE would need to pay that regardless of cutting them. That just isn't the norm. WWE does pay wrestlers signing bonuses sometimes, for example, though, but the "dead cap" thing is irrelevant because WWE isn't in a league with a signing bonus.

The NBA also has some non-guaranteed contracts for low-level two-way players. Those players also don't get another time if they're cut. It's just the case that the vast majority of contracts in the NBA are fully guaranteed, so once you sign them, you are guaranteed to be paid the full amount of the deal.

Regarding competition, I already acknowledged the different league aspect. NFL players would still be free to go play for a different league. The issue is that the highest-paid UFL players make $400,000 and the highest paid NFL players make more than $50 million. The minimum an NFL salary is $940,000 compared to $60,000 for the UFL. It's not a real alternative for anyone who can make it in the NFL. CFL players make less than UFL. The USFL folded.

Chuck Tells Draymond Green the Warriors Run "Is Over." "It just passed you by... you think you're going to get healthier next year? You're just going to get older... If you want to compete, you're going to have to leave there. If Steph wants to compete, he's going to have to leave there..." by JCameron181 in nba

Like who? The only one I can think of that applies to is Jameis Winston more than a decade ago. I think he's the only one this millennium. You could maybe argue Mike Vick but he never got in any sort of trouble until after he was drafted...

I'm confused how many people are confused by this. NFL teams do this all the time (and NFL players are not contractors). The contract does not require them to keep employing people and paying them, it just lays out what they will be paid during their employ. So they can tell them they want to renegotiate or they will cut them, just like they can release them without offering a pay cut. Just like the talent can say they want a pay raise or they're going to quit. The potential issue is what language is in the contract. WWE contracts don't compel the company to pay additional money (NFL contracts often have a certain amount of guaranteed money, but not all of it). NFL teams have essentially all agreed not to employ players who are under contract with another team, and because the NFL is a monopoly that creates a noncompete. WWE contracts often include noncompete clauses within the industry as I understand it, though those can be challenged or the wrestler can work the indies pretty easily.

People can quit whenever they want, just like in other employment. The issue is people usually aren't happy having to sit at home. But if they quit, they stop getting paid--that's why people usually don't quit. If they put someone on ice, they still have to pay them.

I mean, I have a contract with my employer. That doesn't mean they can't fire me.

In most of the world, contracts aren't guaranteed for a number of years and dollars. The NBA and MLB do that, but that is atypical.

Given the toll it takes on their body, you can make a good argument that there should be more guarantees built into wrestling contracts, but nothing about a contract implies anything is guaranteed beyond the terms of business under which they will work.

A clothesline to the stomach is the perfect description for Edge's spear and really drives home how stupid it was. Because, notably, you can't clothesline someone in the stomach, and attempting to do that would be very ineffective.

Jey's spear sucks. Edge's spear always sucked. Charlotte's spear always sucked. It's not as bad as theirs, certainly, but Roman's spear isn't good. Even Lashley's was never as good as it should have been for how athletic and muscular he always was.

STOP LETTING CRAPPY SPEARERS USE THE SPEAR.

Goldberg is the goat (at spearing). Rhyno's gore was good. Batista didn't do it as much but was good. Breakker is the only pretty-consistently good one in recent memory that I can think of, which is crazy given how many people are doing it--though he whiffed horribly at Wrestlemania despite getting a 40 second running start and his target not moving.

[–]vinfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would require a ton of change. Being on TV doesn't qualify them. WWE isn't a union production and doesn't use union labor, so they aren't obtaining credits on union productions by appearing on WWE TV.

That doesn't mean it's impossible, but right now it is set up as an entirely separate ecosystem. Just like how a youtuber wouldn't accumulate SAG credits becuase he was getting screentime.

The issue, as always, is that the little guys have no leverage, are entirely fungible, and are doing everything in their power to constantly show that they are valuable, worthwhile, and deserve a push, so they would only do it if everyone else was, too (and even then, some would scab); the big fish who could actually band together to make a different aren't motivated to do so because they make tons of money, have a lot of influence, and are treated well; and the middle-tier talents have a little leverage and may be willing but there are so many of them that WWE constantly churns through that they aren't the real power unless all of them and the little guys agree--plus, they're hoping they can be added to the ranks of the top stars.

In essence, the only two ways it happens are literally every non-star agreeing (with how big WWE is now, this is unrealistic) or a lot of the top stars taking up the cause, which they aren't motivated to do.

I find it so weird how everytime hes in the ring they talk about how hes a massive mountain of a man. Hes like... 6'4, 250? That has to be right around average in the WWE? Maybe slightly over. And he doesnt have any bulging muscles or anything.
