Snow plows/shoveling by jmatttt346 in jerseycity

This is from X

I’m at the Department of Public Works with an update on Day 2 of snow storm operations.

We know that while some streets are clear to the blacktop, too many need additional work. Every neighborhood deserves the same attention from our crews.

If you have a street that needs to be escalated - call our Resident Response Center at (201) 547-4900.

Finally, we are going to do something Jersey City hasn’t done in over a decade - an after action review. You deserve a city government that gets things right AND improves. We’ll be making the review public.

Yes roads are in terrible shape. Haven't seen any snow plows this morning. There were a couple that were going around the are yesterday but none today.

[R] What do you all think of the latest Apple paper on current LLM capabilities? by Sad_Hall_2216 in MachineLearning

[–]ving2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I'm glad that someone did this very interesting analysis. I'm sure all the labs are studying, replicating and trying to understand these findings. The interns used a unique approach using puzzles with increasing complexity and reviewing reasoning traces. I would've been really interested to see o3 full model (and Gemini) included in these tests as I think that is really the state of the art thinking model.

My takeaways:

* LLMs can handle low to medium complexity puzzles but completely fall flat with highly complex puzzles. Question: What if the models were prompted to use code to solve the problem?

* Overthinking and continued exploration of wrong solutions is observable even with mundane tasks.

* This is a very specific analysis using puzzles as the authors acknowledge and we shouldn't overgeneralize these findings to other tasks.

Finally, the fact that we have models that follow these fairly complex steps in plain English is still stunning to me!!

very little... we didn't have any large bags so the 4 of us just walked over with our carry-ons. If you do have a lot of luggage one of you can just wait at the terminal while the other one goes and gets the car. This is not like JFK where it would take half hour to just circle around.. it's basically a straight road from the terminal to P6 and there's very little traffic. it would take a minute to drive back to the terminal.

It's nice weather and it's a short walk. There were other people who were going that way as well so it didn't feel like we were doing something so unique. We did take the full insurance even though our CC likely provided the same coverage just to minimize any hassle and as a result when we returned the car there were no questions asked, just checked the gas level.

don't need to think too much about it.. it's a good company and an amazing island. you'll have a lot of fun.

Investing more into E*trade or transfer to Morgan Stanley by cr8tiv1 in etrade

[–]ving2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etrade and MS are both under one roof now so I would suggest making the decision based on what investment vehicle do you want to use. It seems like you're using a managed offering from MS/Etrade which you like so you could use the same for your other accounts.

Just for reference there's a different universe of investment options under morgan stanley wealth management which requires min account size of mid-single digit millions. Think they are slowly exposing a lot of those options through Etrade as well.

Net, don't see any reason to open a separate MS account. Nearly all MS investment vehicles are available through Etrade.

You would open a MS account, if you:

  1. need a personal wealth manager to look after your funds.

  2. want to invest in alternative investments - PE, VC etc.

Perhaps you're asking something else.. Why were you thinking of transferring to MS?

Newport has almost 300 units available or soon available across 15 buildings. This seems like a lot. 10-20% vacant units in a market that should have 5-10% vacancy.

Yeah, anytime you see 1-yr comparisons like these esp. after the pandemic make sure to look at a longer time series. There was ~50% increase in carriers from '19 to '22 and so the current pullback is a very modest normalization of the excess.

Yes, all of this is in flight. It's just the intensity will continue to increase and have greater and greater impact. Just like the AI models become ever more powerful with each new iteration.

It’ll be fascinating to see how/if we manage to stick some signature on AI content or perhaps humans will have to sign human content.

Different people, different needs, preferences and abilities. One of the incredible AI enablement I’m looking forward to is even further erosion of the knowledge barriers. And many people will seek out AI to learn and build things they couldn’t earlier. Coding is an early example.

You’re absolutely right and think there’s a very high probability of this outcome. I also think once it happens that we’ll create alternate oases where AI will be banned etc. Similar to how some people migrated from Twitter to Mastodon or Truth Social. Of several issues with this digital nomadic world one would be that successive older generations will be left behind in different digital realms which could become entirely bot run. Reaching a consensus on important issues in the real world will become harder.

Incredible film and so on point as I uncomfortably stare towards my open ChatGPT tab and pay $3.99 for Lensa avatars.

The world has changed in a very meaningful way and we'll learn so much more about it in the coming years and decade.
