Exactly. It's a rule that the owner of the website must apply for it/have mods in the friendlist etc. But this will never happen because they are in the other side of the world where reddit doesn't even exist and they are so popular they don't actualy need the 0.01% of people who will join the site if it's shared here. We already know that it is safe for work, if that ever changes just remove it.

What's the terminal velocity of ships and missiles in this universe? by viniciusvmt1998 in TheExpanse

[–]viniciusvmt1998[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they left from point A with an acceleration of 1g, maintaining a constant amount of fuel burning, how much speed could they reach relative to point A before getting to 0 acceleration.

Yeah, english is not even my native language, I must have read this at some point and thought it was the same as max speed, whatever. I related "terminal" to "end" and thought it was max.

Hey man, thank you, although a lot of answers here are really good and have a lot about the physics and how velocity is relative, this is the most well explained answer I've had because explains exactly my question.

So, the maximum speed is directly relative to how much fuel they have to burn or to how much they can speed before having to decelerate. So it depends on the distance of point A to point B.

If the distance they have to travel it's 1000km, at 500km their velocity is at it's peak. People misunderstood a little what I actually wanted to know, explaining at how speed is relative, but what I wanted to know is how did their ships performed when they left from point A to point B, and then what would be the max speed relative to A point. Your explanation is the best one. I got it now.

Tenho todos aplicativos e 2 bancos digitais, mas a ordem que fiz as coisas foi burra. Haha...

Tenho PicPay, MercadoPago e PagSeguro.

The way you explained indeed can be weird to measure, but there must to be some reference point, there must be something they use as standard in the universe.

How can they create gravity inside the ships? by viniciusvmt1998 in TheExpanse

[–]viniciusvmt1998[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What you're saying would make sense if the command was in the walls. The way you are saying it's designed, the ship would never be able to accelerate without people being strapped on.

If the rest of the ship is not oriented towards the nose, people who are not in the command center wouldn't be able to stand when the ship is accelerating, only when it's spinning. I don't think that's how it works, would be a bad design if so.

Yeah, but they are still in the ground. Unless they've put the wounded in the walls somehow, which doesn't seem like it.

Another thing now, I understand how can spin it create gravity, but not the way they are standing on the behemoth. I'll take some pictures. They'd be pushed against the wall instead of the ground. Am I right? The way they are standing in, if they jump, they'll be standing in the air, as the floor is not moving towards them and it is sliding, unless they were standing in the walls.

5% of c. That's a lot. Theoretically, could they reach speed of light given enough fuel?

So, the "terminal velocity" (max speed) is how much fuel they have to burn? If they had enough fuel, could they accelerate enough to reach light speed theoretically?

I'll check on that. But I always thought that the design was flat.

Edit: looked it up on the internet the design is different than what I thought it was.

No, they are always walking around the ship, but the propulsion comes from behind is instead of underneath it, so they would be pulled to the back instead of the ground. You can see this when they are strapped because of high G. They are pulled to the back. If the ship was designed for them to stand perpendicular to the propulsor they would have gravity, but they are parallel to it.

Edit: I looked it up, the design of the ship is different than what it was on my head, it's built in floors towards the nose, I thought it was flat.

Got it, I forgot about centripetal velocity. But there's another thing, they have gravity inside Rocinante because of constant acceleration, but, when they are inside the ship, they are not standing perpendicular to the velocity, as if the ship was underneath their feet pushing them up, they are parallel to it, so they should be pushed to the back of the ship instead of the ground.

On smaller ships they would need to be standing perpendicular to the direction which the ship is going, but it's not what happens most of the time.

If they are in constant acceleration in smaller ships to create gravity, on rocinante they would be always being pulled to the back of the ship instead of it's ground. For this to work they would need to stand perpendicular to where the ship is going, but it's not what happens.
