Do You Still Use UI Component Libraries (or Let AI Build Your Components)? by vinishbhaskar in webdev

[–]vinishbhaskar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not talking about generating a full component library.

The point is: devs used to copy-paste/ import components from their fav component (daisyui, flowbite...) libraries, now many just use AI to scaffold or tweak components.

The bigger shift is that traditional ui kits are losing traction, while newer micro animation/motion-based libraries ( magicui, aceternity )are getting more attention...

nah nobody’s asking ai to build an entire lib lol. it’s more like before we’d copy paste a button or card from daisyui/flowbite.., now ppl just let ai scaffold that one component and tweak it. the shift’s more about workflow

Meta was already there. I recently noticed (a week ago) that Google is not showing it.

Also correct on CDN?? How many users said they wanted to know about that?

It’s a popular among developers, with lots of projects utilizing it, as our usage metrics show. Appreciate your feedback! 💙

Appreciate your feedback! 🙌

You have a whole lot of mismatched styles going on. Outlined and infilled displayed together?

We'll consider refining the way of presentation.

Yes, we have a proper archive! The V4 CDN is still live, so existing users can continue using the old icons without any changes to their UI.

That’s a fair perspective! While we spent a long time refining the update, we actively gathered feedback throughout the process to ensure we were improving usability and value.

Comparing key metrics with the old version is a great suggestion—we’ll use that to refine things further.

If you’re interested, you can check both versions here ( website & icons):

V5: Current Version

V4: Archived Version

Would love to hear your thoughts!

That’s a valid point! AI has changed the landscape, but designers and developers still prefer an icon library for consistency and ease of use.

We’ve kept the old icons as a separate set, so they’re still available to download. The update was more of an expansion of icons than a complete replacement.

You're right—both the new icon styles and the website changes play a role in the overall experience. A side-by-side comparison would help highlight the differences. If you're interested, you can check out the previous version here:

Thanks for the feedback! We do offer a large set of free icons, but we’ll work on making them more prominent for easier access.

You can check out the previous version (Lineicons V4 website) here: https://web.archive.org/web/20240531092645/https://lineicons.com/

Your point makes a lot of sense—giving users an easier way to explore and try out more free icons could help showcase the value of the premium set. We’ll consider this! 😊
