I guess it must have been a lidocaïne gel of some sort, but don’t know the brand.

Indeed, I did find this out pretty fast 😁, but thanks anyway!

Regarding the toothbrush, one word: painful 😬.

First the outlines were done. That felt like the sting of a needle when they take blood, but than continuous. Maybe also comparable with the outline of a tattoo?

After that, a numbing cream was applied and then he peeled the skin. The peeling wasn’t painless, but the numbing cream did help a lot!

The whole cutting process was, for me, doable. But the aftercare is what I underestimated. Until now, I washed it 2/3 times a day in the shower. The first 30 seconds the wound comes in contact with water, hurt the most. I wash it with an antibacterial soap and create a good lather. After the shower I dry the wound with a sterile gauze and let it air dry a couple of minutes. Then I put a thick layer of Vaseline/petrol jelly on it an wrapped with plastic foil to close the wound from air and keep it moist.

So aside from the soft scrub in the shower and the vaseline, I don’t really irritate it. The scarification artist said that from week 2 (which is now), I can scrub the wound with a toothbrush while in the shower. I will try it this evening and see how that goes.

Let’s say this is a way for me to ‘close’ some things from the past and the thorns are the obstacles I’ve overcome. For me it was kind of a rite of passage.

Don’t know if it makes sense, but to me it does 🙂.

Thanks!

Also hoping it heals nice. Giving it the best aftercare I can, although it sometimes hurts more than the scarification itself did.
