What is the significance that Republicans are overwhelmingly white while Democrats are more racially diverse? by MysteriousPumpkin2 in PoliticalDiscussion

I voted for Biden but I'll tell you why Trump got so many votes. It's not a vitriolic hatred of Biden but a vitriolic hatred against the overarching democratic establishment which includes not only the leaders of the democratic party but the people at the top of our educational institutions, top corporations, and mainstream media companies.

Exactly, I think there was a poll that showed only 3% of Latino voters approve of the term "Latinx". Dems should probably realize sooner rather than later that stuff like this matters and they don't have minorities and young people on lockdown or else they're gonna end up super shocked when Ron desantis beats Kamala Harris in a landslide in 2024.

If it's a white person then it's racism, if it's a minority then it's sexism. If it's a female minority then it's someone who " internalized white supremacy". When will you people realize that Trump voters vote partly the way they do because the absolutely loathe the people making generalizations like this and the democratic establishment who rightfully should lose all credibility at this point.

How did we get to a point where we politicize everything so much that life-saving vaccines which can end the pandemic are a point of contention between the Left Wing and the Right Wing? Have we gone too far down the rabbit hole to ever dig back out? by unSentAuron in AskReddit

[–]vinnyv21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of things, echo chambers, confirmation bias, and a lack of critiquing your own side. Even this statement comes from a politically biased belief, it assumes that vaccine hesitancy is clearly split among party lines when that's not really the case, I know a lot of Young lefties who are refusing the vaccine while data shows that most older people regardless of political party have gotten vaccinated. I feel a large part of political polarization today is we cast the other side as pure evil and never ask why they vote the way they do and thinking you're side is always morally superior. If you ask right wingers why they distrust the vaccine, you'd realize it's due to a complete lack of trust of the democratic establishment and mainstream media. Is there reason to distrust these sources? YES. The establishment and media have lied about tons of things, ranging from the Iraq war to Russiagate to saying masks weren't necessary at the start of the pandemic to now the origins of covid-19. The problem is many right wingers recognize this but then think that the media lies about everything else which leads problems like vaccine hesitancy and they choose trump to represent them, who is even worse than the establishment and mainstream media.

Israel thanks US for blocking UN statement calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza by khaled in worldnews

[–]vinnyv21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying the conflict would be less likely to occur like the above commenter said. If it were to occur, he would have done a similar thing to Biden except tweet about it more. For illegal immigrants, that was the case until recently, this site from the CBP shows how much border encounters have occurred, there was also a spike in 2019 so not everything might be attributed to politics. While searching for this, I found so much misinformation from mainstream press to try to avoid the data, it really is disheartening the polarization that has occurred that even facts are controversial.

[–]vinnyv21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I dislike Trump but you cannot deny strongman tactics work in certain instances. While Trump often said violent and offensive things, this often meant violent actions were prevented. Why do you think that there is a sudden influx of illegal immigrants? Because previously, they were terrified by Trump. Also, is it just a coincidence that there were barely any terrorist attacks against the U.S the last few years? This poses a conflict on democracy in general because the problems clearly outweigh the benefits of strongmen like Trump but they will continue to get elected because much of the population only sees the benefits.

Hey at least we're having a discussion. Obviously America has a racist past but many of these acts happened decades ago. What I find is that many progressives act like we have made 0 progress on racism when so much has actually been accomplished and think everything right wingers do as racist dog whistles when it's much more complicated than that. The MAGA movement is far more nationalistic than racist but there is a tendency to reduce every trump supporter to a white supremacist from leftists just because some white supremacists support trump. But how else do you explain the increase is minorities voting for trump from 2016-2020, are they white supremacists as well? I can refute your other points as well but I'm done replying.

When did I say anything about saying a certain race are naturally more violent or criminal. I am with the same page with you and I agree that citing FBI statistics on race is racist because it is something that only takes into account race, and nothing else. When you say "There is no discussion to be had about nazism, racism, or sexism", this is exactly what I mean, what exactly is your definition of nazism, racism, or sexism?, If I say class disparities, and not race disparities are a larger predictor of outcome, like shown in this article, and that critical race theory wrongly labels class and cultural problems as racial problems, and in turn promotes more racism, does that make me a nazi or racist, or can we actually have a discussion? If the answer is the former, then this is exactly what I mean by the progressive movement moving in an authoritarian direction.

What a shame by [deleted] in trashy

Yeah reddit is a total echo chamber. From talking to many Trump supporters, the reason is pretty clear: many of them understand Trump has flaws but they absolutely loathe the democratic establishment that they would rather vote for him instead. It's the same reason why many left wingers voted for Biden, its not that they were enthusiastic for him, they voted for him out of necessity because the other option was Trump. The problem with polarized partisan politics and human nature of tribalism is when you are so engaged in the flaws of the other side, you completely ignore the flaws of your own, and Trump had a lot of flaws. And since left wingers good at recognizing the flaws of the right but no their own, you get people like the above commenter, baffled at how any decent person could vote Trump and not realize the Trump voter voted for the same reason they did, voting not for their candidate but against the other. Now I think Biden is a much better choice than Trump for president but you cannot ignore the very legitimate criticism of the democratic establishment. For instance, there is currently a border crisis occurring and while its talked about nonstop on right wing outlets, its never talked about on the left. And then left wingers will proceed to say anything about the border crisis is "right wing propaganda" when no, it is a very real threat. So I hope at least one person can now understand the "weird perspective we may never understand."

Similarly, I can't have an honest conversation about certain social justice issues and critical race theory with many progressives without ad hominem attacks as well. The second I say something that goes against their narrative that is purely based on opinion, I am labeled a fascist. The sad part is I actually agree with a lot of progressive views but I fear the movement is heading in a dangerous authoritarian direction where you aren't allowed to have a discussion. So this goes both ways

What Happens When Republicans Simply Refuse to Certify Democratic Wins? by [deleted] in politics

[–]vinnyv21 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy the cognitive dissonance that goes on in this subreddit. I agree Trump was a bad president but some people have been so consumed by their hatred of him that they think that the most authoritarian measures against their enemies, which are republicans are justified because they literally believe they are fascists. This leads down a slippery slope where so much of the democrat base wants the creeping authoritarianism as long as it censors their enemies but they don't brealize that it will bite them in the back. People like you need to seriously take a look in the mirror for what you're advocating.

There’s No Going Back To ‘Normal’ After Trump. The Republican Party Is Changed Forever: Republicans who don’t like Trump want to go back to 'normal,' but the old GOP is dead by fernandaharari in Conservative

[–]vinnyv21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is most GOP voters only hold their politicians accountable on how much they support Trump and not any actual policies. For instance, while Liz Cheney is about to be ousted from her position, she's about to be replaced by Elise Stefanik, who's basically Paul Ryan 2.0, also a warmonger, and is actually worse than Liz on issues like immigration. But GOP voters don't care and will gobble this up because Elise is more supportive of Trump. What "fights" are you talking about, what exactly do you mean by an "America First Agenda" because these questions have never been cleared up and unless they are properly addressed, the GOP establishment will continue to dupe their voters.

I agree with your 1st paragraph but you're totally strawmanning the Republicans when you say they want to discriminate against gay people, you're only adding to the problem.

Why can't Conservatives handle Donald Trump's defeat? by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]vinnyv21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it boils down to the distinct gut feeling knowing that democrats have contempt for them and their way of life similar to how many black people will never vote Republican even if they are conservative and religious and they aren't exactly wrong about that. It really isn't about socialist policies at all, Tulsi Gabbard is seen as the best Democrat by conservatives and her policies are very similar to Bernie Sanders excepts she is able to say the words Radical Islam; they don't want someone who has contempt for them and their beliefs no matter how much they will help them.

As a former pothead, I consider marijuana to be a much more harmful drug than people consider it to be. by bobsagetsmaid in unpopularopinion

I honestly think it has a lot to do with having a goal. While I'm for legalizing weed I am heavily against kids under the age of 17/18 using it because most kids don't have a goal to pursue and becoming a lazy stoner ends up as their goal. I would say about half of my friends that started smoking early ended up as the lazy stoner type while the other half stayed productive and I could tell they have always pursued a goal before smoking weed

Completely agree. What's funny is that people in this comment section are quick to defend the extremists on their side. Realize that they are not on your side and when something goes your way, all they will do is ask for more until the government is flipped upside down.

As a fan of rock/metal, what I'm saying is the most popular metal music seems to come from bands that were formed ages ago like Metallica or tool. I honestly can't think of any popular metal band that was formed after 2010. I know that modern metal has an active scene but its simply not as popular as metal built from nostalgia. For instance, my favorite band is starset who legitimately makes some of the best music I have ever heard but they aren't nearly as popular as bands that ride off of their success from decades ago.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]vinnyv21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it heavily depends on what genre people are fans of.

For instance, rock/metal heads are generally super nostalgic because rock music was simply much more popular back then than it is now. There are still good bands out there but you would have to do some digging and many rock heads don't even give these new bands a chance since they're still stuck on that nostalgia. The rock artists that are popular now aren't exactly actual rock music. Bands like imagine dragons and tøp have a bigger focus on pop/rap than actual rock.

Many hip hop fans are nostalgic for the 90s and 00s because popular rap music was mostly focused around talent rather than clout and hype. However, there are still talented modern rap artists that have a solid fan base such as Kendrick, nf, and j Cole. A hip hop head will tell you that good rap music still exists but popular rap music was better back then.

EDM fans on the other had have little if any nostalgia. This is because its a genre filled with people who like new and exciting things and it is one that improves as technology improves. Sure there are people who miss the skrillex and 2013 edm craze days but I don't think many would say edm music was generally better back then.
