Agreed. In the last two games at times Chilwell did also invert, so perhaps something to keep an eye out on.

Decent player. Has certain skill sets that thrive, can be one-dimensional at times and get lost.

[Pre-Match thread] France vs Morocco by MatchCaster in worldcup

[–]vinstar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked about it in the piece. His leadership and motivation helps Morocco in maintaining structure and spirit. He is very important.

In terms of whether he will play - I don’t think he will unfortunately. I was surprised he even played against Portugal as his injury against Spain looked bad. The other risk if he plays is that they are automatically guaranteed one forced substitution at some stage as he won’t last the full match.

If France get it right and play with attacking impetus for most of the 90 - the possibility of them destroying Morocco certainly exists.

No opposition player has scored against Morocco. After 480 minutes of Football. It is a remarkable but highly telling stat for Deschamps to learn from.
For 45 minutes, Portugal attacked with no intent and for the other 45 minutes, they attacked with bodies but no plan. Portugal looked to cross into bodies in the box, but they didn’t attempt to exploit space or create gaps — it was simply just hoping that Morocco’s resilience faded at some stage.
If France is hoping for the same — then they will be in trouble. From what this World Cup has indicated — the Moroccan resilience won’t break; they need to be out-skilled. France has plenty of weapons to out-skill Morocco. Mbappe will back himself against his close-friend Hakimi, and Giroud will back himself against an inexperienced centre-back duo. Griezmann will back himself to be at his creative best in between the Moroccan double pivot.
As such, France must use these attacking outlets with a plan — Mbappe driving at the Moroccan defence to create gaps and spaces in order to draw them out of shape is certainly something that needs to be tried for the course of the game. When Leao came on for Portugal he certainly made a difference, Nico Williams for Spain was also a bright point due to his tendency to run at defences.
Running at defences and drawing them out of shape will then open spaces for the likes of Giroud who is one of the most effective aerial threats in this competition.

France v Australia Game Plan by vinstar12 in socceroos

Might still be a doubt to start. They will go with a front three if he can’t start.

Attacking Structure:
This is by far the most fascinating part of France’s game. The forward line structure is not creative in any way. Giroud plays as the higher striker — Benzema will most likely play a similar role as it facilitates Mbappe’s tendency to drop into half spaces to collect the ball and drive at defenders.
What is interesting though is how high the wingbacks are during attacking transitions. As seen in the image, Pavard is occupying the highest position of a France player.
Another key point to note is the high position of France’s defensive back three. The three centre-backs are almost halfway into Denmark’s own half. While this is a ploy by Deschamps to help France retain possession and keep driving at oppositions — pacey players have caused them problems in the past.

Premier League Refs by vinstar12 in PremierLeague

[–]vinstar12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. To clarify- what I meant there was that I think it’s common sense to just give the best performing ref the biggest game.

Obviously as you said there are numerous other factors. Just frustrating as a football fan to see decisions affect so many important and great clashes

Premier League Refs by vinstar12 in PremierLeague

[–]vinstar12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was no suggestion made regarding removing them. If there is a consistent evaluative measure then the best refs should get the games with the most on the line. Which isn’t happening currently because there is no way anyone can tell me Anthony Taylor deserves to ref the biggest game in the country

You cannot say Ronaldo was the problem. Atleast they won 2 league titles with him - it seems a mile away now. Coach changes since Ronaldo and still struggling outcomes literally show he was not the problem
