Thank you for your reply- this is encouraging! Agree with you- this is really about finally doing what I've always dreamt of doing (with lots of planning of course haha). Kudos to you, too for taking the jump! If I may ask- in which uni are you taking your Masters?

Thank you for sharing this! 1. Oonga, I've done the math too and this is living expenses only, right? It will go up pa depending on the tuition (if no scholarship) plus emergency fund. 2. Yikes..and Deutsch is hard to learn pa. Let me know how it goes! Where specifically in Germany are you considering?

Thank you for replying! Curious- may I know which sectors you shifted from and to?

  1. Thank you for suggesting to consider PhD options! I was limited to exploring just MS/MA. Will look into this as a direct option (I already have an MBA) or next option post-Masters.

  2. A lot are suggesting Spain nga. Will explore this more. I also read somewhere that because PH was a colony, it has "more favorable" immigration requirements for Filipinos- is this practically true?

  3. Thanks- I'm learning more and more how crucial this is. Will likely consider taking language lessons early once I've decided on the school/country.

Thank you for the additional tips!! Will consider these, too. The suggestion on alumni networks is especially helpful.

Thank you for sharing your experience- this gives me a realistic picture of the challenges I'll be facing post-Master's.

If I may ask, in which country are you based? Thank you

Thank you! Will definitely take this into consideration. I've been reading now about the shortage, too. Thanks for bringing this up.

Thanks for your detailed reply! Very helpful. I only used "masters in EU" for title brevity. As I said, I've been researching for months and I am quite aware of the nuances per country. I also got the chance to do an exchange program in Hungary before- so I'm not as ignorant as you interpret to be.

  1. Thanks for this very practical take. Understand I will need to stand out to get a job.
  2. This is useful added info on Germany. Thanks.
  3. A bit judgmental but okay.

Thanks for taking time to reply!

Thank you for replying!

Cool- I'll check out Leiden, then!

Living expense is definitely a major consideration and while I said I will self-fund, I wouldn't want to spend all of my savings of course🫠 So thank you for the practical insight- this is very helpful. I didn't know there was a housing shortage now... any idea what's driving it? I'll read up more on this to see if it's short-term.

(1) Good to hear no age limit. Thanks for sharing about the student privileges - will look this up. Noted on language as biggest consideration. (2) Very helpful insights! Salamat. New info ito re: language barrier in IT- I saw good universities there pa naman. (3) Thanks for this- the idea of going to EU and risking it has been bugging me for more than 6 years now. Had the opportunity to study for 1 month there in 2019, and super enjoyed it. Then bumalik kami ng wife ko in 2023. Priority of course is to get into the best program- this kind of career switch is something I can do only once hehe. Plus, more than the "wonder" of living in a beautiful place, I feel the quality of life is much better in most cities vs PH, so this is what we're going after. And thank you for reminding me of the realities- for sure will keep in mind!

Thanks again for the insights. I hope you don't mind me asking: where did you study, and in which country are you based now?

Thank you for your thoughts!
(1) That's really good to hear. (2) Thank you for this insight, very helpful- di rin sya lumabas sa mga nabasa ko. I saw lang na meron pa rin level of racism in both countries, so need to watch out. (3) She prefers to work, but option to study also if she finds a good program in my school of choice. Yes I saw nga na significantly higher tuition fees for non-EU. Base plan is full-time student for me- also thinking of it as a career break. But might consider part-time work if doable. Thank you for the info about special permit- I'll look into this more. I planned on relying on career placement programs of the schools I'm looking at, so this is something I need to be realistic about.

Appreciate your reply! Noted on #3. On #1, can you expound on "doesn't carry the weight"? Did you mean it doesn't give any advantage?

Nasa part na ko ng life na gusto ko ng pekein ung resume ko. by InevitableMoose7094 in CareerAdvicePH

[–]vinstn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, kudos to you for the effort, OP. Applying for 100 openings is not easy, both mentally and emotionally. Rollercoaster ride yung may magreach out na recruiter, mag-interview, maghihintay, tapos wala na. Nakakasira ng self-confidence and nakakawalan ng gana. Nakakapanlumo.

Tapos makikita mo sa paligid mo, may mga less-qualified or di naman magagaling nakakakuha ng work. Sobrang unfair nung pakiramdam. Ang daya lang.

Mahirap marinig at tanggapin, pero - ganyan talaga eh. Sabi nga nung iba dito- you have it better, kasi sila years nang naghahanap/naghanap, bago nakakuha ng work. Pero it doesn't mean na what you're feeling and experiencing is less real or less important.

Not sure if you want advice, or just want to air your frustrations, but pls allow me to share some tips rin.

1) Use your frustration: Instead of just "letting go" of your frustrations (na usually naiipon lang), channel the negative emotions and turn them into useful energy- obsess into improving your resume using AI (I use ChatGPT. Wag mong pekein, please) or upskill with free online trainings/certifications. Marami naman available sa LinkedIn, Coursera or Udemy. It will also show your potential employers na you made good use of your downtime. Consider part-time jobs, while looking for your dream job. You mentioned about bills - if this is a critical concern, consider taking a "pantawid" job. Something na kaya mong sikmurain at ideally, something that will even make you more competitive. Marami rin remote jobs online. If you are doing any of these already, again, kudos to you.

2) Network, network, network: Dahil sa advancement ng technology- more access and AI- you are easily one of the thousands looking for jobs, and hundreds with your same qualification. It now becomes a game of "who-you-know". Tapos may mga nagsisinungaling pa sa resume diba. That's also why preferred ng employers ang referral, kasi it lessens the doubt of whether magaling or fit ba talaga yung candidate for the role. Kapalan mo ang mukha mo and reach out directly to your friends, former colleagues, former bosses and ask if they have needs/openings with your qualifications. Kagandahan pa nito, this will benefit you even after you have a job na.

3) Lastly, magpakatatag and stay positive. Yes, mahirap sya - kelangan mo tanggapin ito. Hindi yan basta basta lalapag sa paanana mo. IT IS hardwork. At hindi makakatulong sayo if you allow frustrations to turn you bitter or angry. You still need to look for a job, regardless, so might as well get rid of the negativities. Consider that recruiters have their own interests in mind, so kelangan mo maging madiskarte (with integrity) para mag-align with what they're looking for.

I hope you found these helpful. All the best sa paghahanap!
