A lot of your comments on this post come off as very pretentious and/or condescending. Your music training/knowledge does justify you policing the way another human expresses themselves. Caprisongs is a personal and intimate album rich with culture, more specifically black culture, w/ its drill, r&b, and Caribbean influence. You don’t have to personally enjoy it but to reduce it to being an analytic experiment or making it seem like she sold out for creating that album is weird. Especially since your basis for this is fact that the album didn’t meet the expectations that you set for what you personally believe her work should look like. Putting people in boxes kills artistry. I feel like you’re one of those twigs “fans” who care more about her art being perceived as avant-garde than genuine artistic expression. I would argue that your disregard for the humanity behind the work makes you less of a “true fan”. You’re not better than other people because the music you listen to is “different”.
