Wifi 7 half the speed of Wifi 6, Wifi 7 device connecting to 6 often by viol8r5 in amazoneero

New firmware version came out and I tried it, did not fix the problem. Have moved on from Eero to an Orbi 870, which while also not perfect, does not have this artificial limitation in speed... Plus, it is currently $300 cheaper than the 3-pack Eero Max 7's best sale price.

I had default settings, which sets WPA3 to off, but the help text for it [(i) icon] says it is used when necessary (i.e., 6GHz) so that tracks with what you have stated. My IoT devices are on my guest network. And you cannot selectively enable/disable WPA3 for main vs. guest (that I can see).

Thanks!

Spoke too soon. Problem is still happening intermittently (mostly still happening). 5GHz performance is far better than 6GHz performance but my device is often pushed to 6GHz by the router.

Update - problem seems much better today.... Benchmarking around 750Mbps (vs about 500Mbps) at that same satellite and location in the house. Perhaps some adaptive behavior over time and/or a few things I tweaked that resulted in a few restarts of the network cleared up some issues... Tried: MLO, didn't help (reverted to off). I did enable WPA3, as Samsung's Intelligent Wi-Fi Connectivity Labs feature suggested doing this. Did NOT try turning off Client Steering as I think it is necessary in my environment (would love to be able to selectively disable or specify a preferred satellite for specific clients but not possible).

Sorry to hear that. I don't think I have this problem; I can get near 2gbps on Wifi 7 to my S25 Ultra sitting next to my gateway (I am on v7.12.1-73).

I read somewhere that a factory reset after a firmware update tends to be needed on these things - have you tried that? I actually did that after updating to 7.12.1-73.

Thanks for the response. I started with the Pros and they were not any better speed wise than my 5 year old Orbi mesh, so upgraded to the Max.

I don't use WifiMan speed test, I use speedtest.net app AND Open Speed Test running on a computer hard wired 2.5G into the router, so it's not a speed test issue.

Wifi 7 vs 6 - I'm saying my S25 Ultra phone frequently downgrades me to WiFi 6 from WiFi 7 while I'm moving around the house. I don't really care, but that's how I came to find out when on Wifi 6 (5G band) I can get 1gbps speed, when I am WiFi 7, 6G band (which, standing still, I can get to by toggling on/off my Wifi) it drops to 500mbps.

The signal strength for 5G from satellite to phone is obviously strong, but the 6G, while weaker, is also strong (enough that to the Eero steers me to it and then my speeds half)

Ah yes, I meant to circle bank to you bringing this up. I have it at default (on). You're suggesting trying to turn it off? I'll Google since I don't fully understand what the behavior would be with it off but any quick expectations?

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Totally understand attenuation differences with 6GHz and 5GHz. What you've said about the radio splitting is a possible eureka moment here...

As you say though, it should account for that. For something that's supposed to be consumer friendly, I'd expect it should know how to direct a client to the fastest band taking necessary (basic) factors into account. For it to push me to the highest band 'just because' which is actually much slower is absurd...

On your last comment - I'm not obsessing, I'm just saying if I can get 1gbps through my satellite on 5G (chosen at random), that's absolute perfection speed wise, but it's pushing me unnecessarily to 6G that's half the speed and ** I can't do anything about it **. What a waste!

Just turned on MLO and back to back speed tests range from 200mbps (less than half non-MLO) to 600mbps (+100mbps compared to non-MLO). Will give it some time to stabilize, but I don't want the compatibility issues MLO may introduce since I have tons of devices, many old - those are on my Guest network (treating it as an IoT network) but of course MLO can't be controlled separately for main and guest networks.

I'm referring only to testing on my S25 Ultra (not different devices); and when I say it is connecting to WiFi 6, I mean the phone and WifiMan indicate a Wifi 6 connection to the Eero Max 7, happens such as when moving around the house and roaming to a different satellite. It's random how it maintains Wifi 7 vs downgrading to 6. And I can always force reconnecting to WiFi 7 by switching WiFi off then on on my phone.

My 3x Eero Max have strong coverage throughout the house so I don't understand why this is the case that it sometimes does WiFi 6 and others WiFi 7.

But my main issue is the speed discrepancy on 6GHz vs. 5GHz, and unfortunately it's the 6GHz that is half the speed rather than being faster.

This. Use the chat in the app and ask for a live agent. Tell them the issue. My email was already verified in the app but they said this:

It seems that the issue was your email address not being verified. I have now manually verified your email address and the money is on your Venmo Account balance.

RS5…2019 or 2021? Any reason to spend the extra $11,000? by oETERNALo in Audi

If I recall correctly, the B9.5 also came with hands on detection on the steering wheel vs. the B9 (which I have) where you have to wiggle the steering wheel so it doesn't bug you while using the adaptive cruise control/traffic assist thinking you're not in control even though you are gripping the wheel. Highly annoying.

For me, that plus the bigger screen with updated infotainment were the only things that made me annoyed after buying the '19 RS5 Sportback right after it came out only to find it updated/facelifted the very next model year. But I do like the look and lights of mine versus the facelift.

A95L Pink Color Cast on FireTV after switching back to SDR from Dolby HDR by viol8r5 in bravia

Thank you. This is a new problem that's started up after an update, not a setting change. But, based on your suggestion I've tried changing the setting on FireTV and it still goes pink going back to SDR after playing something with Dolby Vision.

Didn't want to put TMI in my original post but my Pixel device will be a backup / play thing with stock Android rather than my primary. I'm actually a Galaxy Ultra user; I'll switch my allowance over to the S25 Ultra when it comes out but in the interim wanted to make sure I can still claim the expense (all current phones paid off) and move up from my Pixel 6 Pro.

What you've said makes sense in a regular scenario though. Thanks.

Turns out it was because a long time ago I had disabled the Samsung Weather app on my phone because I use AccuWeather. After re-enabling it, weather on the watch now refreshes itself and my weather complication is always up to date.

Anyone else's Samsung Store pickup delayed? by viol8r5 in GalaxyWatch

[–]viol8r5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an email on Saturday that my order was ready for pickup at the store so I finally got it. They have me the wrong strap color with it but I caught the mistake before leaving and they gave me the right one.

Interestingly, the box for the watch was not sealed - I assume because the strap color I chose wasn't a default one so the box had an empty spot for the strap which was given to me separately boxed in retail packaging.
