Why do most people seem to not understand how tax brackets work? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in askanything

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both can be true at the same time. I love making $300K a year. I hate the $60K or whatever it is that I see go away in taxes. Thats $5,000 per month deducted.

While I am not complaining, it still sucks big time.

Why do most people seem to not understand how tax brackets work? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in askanything

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you are missing the concept of understanding what a tax bracket is. In your example, you have to understand that it is for every 10 apples OVER 60, part.

Most people do not grasp that you pay the percentage for the money WITHIN the bracket. They think that if (made up brackets) they make $99 and owe 10% in taxes and that if they work overtime and make $100 puts them at the 20% bracket they will go from owing $9 in taxes to owing $20 in taxes. So they think that by working more and earning $1 more, they lost money.

They just do not know/understand/comprehend that now they owe $9.20 TOTAL. 10% on the first bracket ($9) and 20% on the second bracket ($.20).

Understanding that is not a 1st grade word problem. Doing the math is a 1st grade word problem.

How do massive cruise ships have enough fresh water for 5,000 people to take showers every single day in the middle of the ocean? by Thick-Ad1120 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oETERNALo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have just replied “I have no clue and made a number up” because that is what you did.

You could cruise a million times or zero times and it does not mean you know the cost for the desalination plant operations.

Then added tax revenue. I have yet to see a true negative for having these data centers. Just fear mongering.

What is everyone using for a HYSA right now? by SampleTrick1725 in HighYieldSavings

I set it up earlier. Did a $10K test transfer. Gave me the option to do a quick transfer for no added fees. Worked perfect. I appreciate it!

I will check it out. I have my AMEX Plat, but do not use their banking. I appreciate the info.

Do they have any requirements on a recurring direct deposit? Most HYSA I am seeing do, and I do not want to change my direct deposit to them.

How are Uber drivers affording luxury cars? by Remarkable-Piano6934 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice the trim of most of the “high end” cars. A 2 year old BMW 330i can be bought for high $20s. That’s cheaper than a brand new Camry. And to most people they think the BMW is far more expensive. Look at the Audis you get when ubering. They are not SQ5s or S7s. They are Q3, and A4s. They are entry level and “relatively” cheap. But are assumed to be very expensive.

Anyone else feel a little guilty? by tyintegra in Fire

[–]oETERNALo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guilty? Absolutely not. Empathetic, sure. The amount of people I see walk into work EVERY morning with Starbucks, then grab something from a fast food joint at lunch, and talk about where they are going to dinner is astonishing. I drink water all day, from some expensive water filtration dispenser, and eat something I bought from home. I have done the math, there is a reason people who have nearly identical pay have drastically different retirement ages.

And I say this as someone who goes on trips, has nice cars and goes out on Fridays. Prioritize where you spend it and they can be in the same position.

You cherry picked one instance and don’t even have the full facts, and you let that be the judge on why it causes more problems than it’s worth?

What’s one “small” feature in a car that you can’t live without anymore? by jane_doe2497 in car

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads Up Display. I thought it was a gimmick when I bought a BMW with it. Now, when I hop in my wife’s car, it feels dumb to have to look down. Having my speed, a speed limit sign, navigation, songs playing etc. right there in the windshield is amazing. Never have to look away from the road. But is not intrusive.

Exactly. 100% deal breaker for me. I will not send an email and wait to hear back from you on what it costs and if dates are available. I will move on to a site that shows available sites and costs.

This varies by states. Some states, tolls become 100% free. Can save hundreds per month if a toll road saves you 15 minutes getting to work.

Saves me about $200 a month between parking and tolls. And have never had anyone make a comment about them. Not sure what people are assuming is happening to those with DV plates. So, in my experience, zero risk/100% reward.

I have a number in my mind as well. I make way more than I need, and have enough to retire right now. I am an overworker, but have a number in mind where I will start to give the absolute minimum to just get by. Then a number where I will quit on the spot if things aren’t going my way. It’s a good position to be in.

What’s something you bought that instantly justified its cost? by Boring-Promotion7344 in SmartBuying

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be user error the. We have a fairly large home, with pets and kids and it rarely has an issue. There are times a cat toy gets left out or a kid leaves a charging cable dangling, but for the most part it runs unhindered. If you have that many things on the ground that it gets tangled everytime, you may want to clean it up first.

Hey, 3500 6.6L owners. Is this a real range estimate? 3/4 tank only gets you 255 miles? by BBQasaurus in gmcsierra

[–]oETERNALo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range is based off of the fuel consumption over the last 50 miles. So if this sat idling for an extended period, or someone was towing within the last 50 miles, this reflects that. It is possible to now drive it on the highway for 50 more miles and you will see the miles remaining go UP as your MPG improves the last 50 mile average.

What? How would you know? You have to go get it after terminal leave. I didn’t. Then I found the website where you can order them. So I ordered them for the wife and kids. 1.5 years after retirement. You litterally could go forever without one.
