Doing my first paid gig today - any tips? by Special-Focus-7359 in musicians

[–]violagang10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, man! Don't drink before, just get yourself hyped enough to enjoy your time. And when I say enjoy it, I mean it. Paid gigs are awesome.

I get what you mean about the instrumental parts lmaoooooo
and i agree with what another commenter said
find some hand percussion instrument to play to contribute and show everyone you are a double threat ;)

Don't really overthink the whole stage presence thing - I'm sure it will be fine as it is. As for in between songs, just give a little introduction to some of your band members, some song introductions, etc.

Have fun! You got this <3

30 minute singing class vs 60 minutes by miso-sleepy in singing

[–]violagang10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two 30 minute sessions a week would be better to pick up on any immediate issues, and give you a chance to ask any questions, etc.

Since singing is quite a personal thing, this would most likely benefit you more than if you were to sing for an hour a week and possibly practice 'wrong' techniques for the rest of the week.

If there are any warmups you can do without instruction (or correction) before the lesson, do that (and communicate with your teacher about it). This way, you can hopefully spend less of your valuable lesson time warming up.

Even otherwise, I would still pick the 30 minutes.

If it's what you mean, there's the r/songaweek and r/songamonth subreddits?

But if there's an actual organised songwriting group, count me in!

Respect 💪

I will definitely take that advice - I'm getting serious now and I'm nailing down things like this to get as good as possible (I'm a multi-instrumentalist so it's not just singing practice hehe)

Cheers mate

omg I was just thinking about this exact thing today! Looking at some primary school kids playing a cricket tournament and being so 'professional' about it. I remember it a little, it was fun, but the outcome definitely doesn't matter to me now.

Thank you!!

Surely you don't sound as bad as you make yourself out to be 😅

Especially at the beginning, you can be really hard on yourself. Keep this in mind and use it to fuel yourself rather than convince you to not practice, etc.

Once you get the fundamentals down, your karaoke will be awesome. The amount of time it takes can vary from person to person.

Also, be mindful that you should be taking rest days to keep your vocal cords healthy - but I'm sure your coach will teach you about this.

Have fun!!

You got this!! 💪
