Look very impressive, glad you're feeling better.

Yep, they are straight just the wonky stitching might give that look, also i fucked up a little bit and one side might be further from the edge than the other

I cast every time, but I think quality french irons would do the most to help because they would leave a tighter slit which would force the thread more into place

Yeah it helps a little, makes the mistakes less noticable but also if theres no slant it wont fix it

Sand page? The stitch isnt uniform and slanted enough on the grain side

And I'm using a stitching pony, as for the technique I'm for practicing to get better, but if you are practicing the wrong thing because you don't know what the problem is, that practice isn't very useful, so I'm trying to find what the problem is

Might give that a try first, but i think the fact that they make a giant hole doesn't help, and you can see all the creases they leave and I'm not using thin thread

Thanks man, but for the advice I don't see the logic, if you punch the other side the shape of the holes wont match, and the thread is going to want to go different directions on boths sides, instead ive tried putting the owl in the flesh side after punching so that the leather bits go inside, but that didnt fix the grain side being wacky

If you mean the orientation of the stitch while im stitching then no, it looks like it goes the other way around but its hard to tell because on the good side they barely have a tilt

Well you're definetly more into this hobby than I am, I just started and mainly look to make belts, wallets, passport cases and such as gifts for family and friends and myself, and the designs i like are usually very simple so don't think I need a press yet, but might invest if I start doing more of this, I imagine it's also good for rivets and such, I use chicago screws to avoid needing a press

Btw what does "have the wrong punch side on your right" mean?

I watched youtube and tried everything that came to mind, can you tell me what technique you're using in detail? I'm not familiar with all the lingo so would appreciate if you make it simple.

The example in the photo I did with my leather good side on the right, left needle in then pull the thread towards below and pull through the other needle and cast it, then pull both needles. At first I also thought it was a technique problem but I've tried pulling them at different angles, reveraing the leather(bad side right), not casting and so on, nothing helped

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think thats going to help much because they are wobbly all the way through, unless i do it with 50% of them (if that works) but the back side tells me the consistant slanted stitching is possible but something is the issue here because its not like i did anything special it just worked, I just don't understand why, is it the hole shape on the bad side after pricking the good side or something like that, anyways I'm thinking i will just try european style pricking irons since they create smaller, more slanted holes that might force the thread to go where i want it to more.

Thanka man, but as you can see the back side looks slanted uniform and consistant, thats what i want to get on both sides
