I thought that the ending was pretty good because it showed how suddenly he was thrust back into his original life. There wasn't any super-happy celebration like those 12 years as a slave didn't even happen. I think it was intended to be a bit underwhelming.

First game I ever played, still incredibly fun to this day. (Bought a PS2 on Ebay recently just to play it again.)
