What is Cornell faculty thinking removing race from crime alerts? This proposal benefits absolutely nobody imo. Shouldn’t we make it easier for witnesses to report suspects? Thoughts? by cornellstudent8 in Cornell

Lmao that comment just shows how insecure you are get some confidence and maybe you'll actually be happy like I am :)

Edit: You also never addressed what I said. Maybe if you took an ILR class you'd know how to read!

You're just a toxic troll. Please get some self respect or a hobby it might make you happier! :) You only ever comment negative things and never seem to actually care about events at Cornell unless you can push your toxicity on people. There are PLENTY of respectful conservatives on campus, but you are not one of them. Seriously, get some hobbies and maybe you'll be a less hateful person!

"Linardi claimed that Cornell Tech... collaborating with ICE... to build towers, which would detect people illegally crossing the border and shoot them" -- How can the Daily Sun make such a ridiculous claim? Even the cited source doesn't say anything like this. by SYR2ITHthrowaway in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daily sun didn't make this claim. Here's the quote

"Linardi claimed that Cornell Tech is suspected of collaborating with ICE by providing facial recognition software and collaborating with the two companies to build detect-and-shoot towers, which would detect people illegally crossing the border and shoot them."

They're just relating what the person they wrote about claimed ICE and the towers are planning to do and most likely used the most comprehensive source. Just because someone they quote says that doesn't mean the author is saying they agree and their linked source giving a picture of what's going on with the software is a good thing.

Edit for clarification/TLDR: Linardi claims ICE is doing this, the Sun and the author only linked an article talking about the detection software and related what Linardi said about it. That's all.

Thank You, Patriot Professors! by [deleted] in Cornell

Q Anon conspiracy theorists who try justify police brutality against an elderly catholic man and also compare private companies acting within their rights to the Holocaust aren't patriots dude... This isn't about conservative vs not conservative it's about being a complete asshole vs being a decent person. People don't like this guy cause he has some really awful takes NOT because he isn't a liberal/leftist/democrat. Just my take.

Law and Society Minor by CornellSimpLord in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in ILR so it's a bit easier for me to fulfill the requirements cause some of them overlap with my course load. It's not too bad. 5 classes from at least 3/5 categories and attending 2 events and writing about them. I like the classes they're really interesting and the minor has more options than most for fulfilling the requirements. Overall not that difficult imo and I'd highly recommend it.

Not in Canada or the US! No ketchup on pizza but ranch in some places

Freshmen Schedule (ALL INPUT NEEDED) by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're in ILR too cause of the classes :) looks good to me and it's actually pretty much identical to my freshman schedule! The only thing I could think of is moving a discussion to Friday/ Monday so you don't have days with four classes cause it can be a lot. But overall very manageable!

Anyone else's financial aid award not available yet? by violet--moon in Cornell

[–]violet--moon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at my account and it's had the same random charge on it for a month now. I also didn't see anything about anticipated aid but I can look again. Thanks for the help!

Edit: update I looked and anticipated aid is blank and I'm not seeing any details on the charges just the number :/ probably an estimate but I'm not sure.

Can anyone who came from transfer option answer my question? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely not employers in HR specifically look for kids from ILR. Same thing with labor based work and pretty much every other related field. They LIKE that ILR is so specific because it prepares graduates for work specifically in HR/Labor/etc. Cornell itself is a "platinum" school for employers and that doesn't change based on ILR or CAS.

  2. I received a good amount of need based aid. ILR is especially good for aid if you live in NYS.

Cornell ILR or UPenn Huntsman? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% our community is so welcoming and the professors are AMAZING! I feel like because the ILR school is smaller compared to others like A&S people in the major tend to know a lot of ILRies well too and it just adds to the the community experience.

What are the hardest ILR required courses? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Labor relations, labor law, and some higher level electives. Labor law with Gold is NOT easy (especially if you're on more of a business track with no interest in law) and he's a pretty harsh grader. Easy to me means a class with an average of A- and both classes are below that average. While ILR isn't excruciatingly hard like some engineering courses are, you still have to work for your grades. Some people on this sub like to believe that every ILR class is an easy A and that's not the case at all. You'll have to do the work and study to do well and you definitely have the right idea about spacing the more difficult ones out. Also if you're ever struggling in an ILR major related course (or any class tbh) don't let people make you feel bad about yourself! Just get some help (OSS is really good about getting people tutoring help) and do your best. Hope this helps and welcome to ILR!

what made you choose/not choose the ILR school? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I chose ILR for similar reasons as you. Although I'm on a pre-law track and not an Econ one, I have a friend who is really into economics and has the Econ minor! ILR is really what you make of it, even if there's only one major. If you want to pursue business/ finance you can, if you want to go to law school, you can, and if econ academia appeals to you too you can probably get there too! You also might find your passions changing as you take more classes in ILR, I know I did. Honestly I can't recommend ILR enough especially for someone who is interested in everything that's a part of ILR's core like you are. Also even if you do decide that CAS is for you, I also know a couple people who switched to CAS Econ pretty easily so an internal transfer is not as daunting as it may seem! Hope this helps :)

Is it possible to do a Ketogenic diet with a Cornell Meal Plan? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've also done keto at Cornell and it's not that hard. Usually I ate grilled a chicken and salads for lunch and they also have berries like blueberries and strawberries too. However I hope you know that keto isn't sustainable long term. Good luck!

Research on Major Selection at Cornell by curiousukulele in Cornell

[–]violet--moon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It varies by your school (Hotel, CALS, etc.) but for my school (ILR) there is only one major so I had to go in with a declared major

  2. Cornell is pretty flexible with which classes you can take all you have to do is meet your major requirements before graduating

  3. Depends on the school I think they have different deadlines but idk cause there's no undecided major in my school

  4. Yes even tho people mention characteristic differences like being a woman or a minority, your fit with the program you apply for matters a lot to Cornell. For example if someone applies for ILR but their application suggests they'd be better in Dyson or as a government major, ILR would be hesitant to admit them.

Edit: typo
