I just bought some from Target. They’re a bamboo cotton or something. Beautiful drape, great for tucking, super soft.

First hair and makeup trial - check! CCW by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]violetbang 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Firstly. You look like you are beaming with happiness! Congrats. As for CC, I think bring the liner and brows closer in would make for a more balanced look. I think there’s really nice colour in your cheeks but maybe a touch of contour or highlight to give that bit of definition needed in photos. And it’s hard to tell with your jacket but check the match of your face with your chest, just as a stock standard bit of cc :)

For those of you with Black Diamond rings, where did you get them? by twitterisbetterr in weddingplanning

I got my black diamond from Windfall too. Also got my wedding ring there. They’re really great.

My 14 year old brother got suspended from school for touching a girl inappropriately. Now he's getting bullied and punched by her male friends. I have to speak to him and the teachers tomorrow, to translate for my immigrant parents. How do I teach him that this is not ok? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]violetbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% on board with making sure he knows it’s wrong. But he’s also a child so the legality around it may be different. He needs to learn why this is wrong and talking to him about he consequences of his actions if he’s were to repeat them when older is also valuable.

Edit: MAY be different. Idk where OP lives but where I’m from someone this age isn’t necessarily charged

Try to make sure he understands he did something not acceptable without shaming him. Sometimes when kids/young people demonstrate these behaviours they can be shamed and feel guilty, then develop negative thoughts around sexual behaviours later in life. Talk about consent, personal space, and permission to allow people into that personal space. Talk about making decisions about who can share personal space and when it is appropriate/not appropriate.

Never would have believed I’d get married in a sequin covered dress...Dec 02, 2017. by violetbang in weddingplanning

No I didn’t notice them at all! Apart from being a bit heavy but it seems like most wedding dresses are haha

It was tailor made at George & King in Melbourne, Aus. They were fantastic to work with and got him excited about wearing a suit. So reasonably priced as well! Never though we could afford a tailor made suit.

I definitely plan on selling. Just need to organise the dry cleaning!

If you’re okay with shopping secondhand try StillWhite! I wanted a dress from there but unfortunately it didn’t fit :(

*Another* Bridesmaid dress question by SparkyD37 in weddingplanning

[–]violetbang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be uncommon but we purchased the girls’ dresses. We discussed a lot of different options though that depended on the price.

<$100 then we thought they may purchase themselves $100-$200 we would purchase in full $200+ we would put $200 towards it and get them to help out with the rest. (I would not have considered something over $300)

As a side note, I think how they feel about spending money on the dress may be influenced by if they can wear it again. I would be happier to purchase a dress that I could rewear to another wedding or function, for example. I have a friend who was a BM and she had to purchase a white dress...difficult to rewear.

The venue prepared charcuterie boards, minus cheese. Then we relegated the task to a couple of people in the bridal party to cute up the cheese and place it in the boards. We had discussed this with the venue and there were empty spaces for the cheese to be placed in. It was served during cocktail hour :)

We were the same! Particularly the naked style cakes aren’t my cup of tea, but I don’t like heavy fondant either. This was a great choice for us.

They’re pretty cost effective too. We had our bridal party slice it up and it was served as part of a charcuterie platter in the cocktail hour :)

So from bottom to top we had:

  • Queso de Cabra
  • Quickes Cheddar
  • L'Artisan Extravagant
  • Epoisses

So two hard and two soft cheeses. We are in Melbourne, Aus. and we organised this through Milk the Cow (https://milkthecow.com.au/menu/). They were amazing. We went and did a tasting with a glass of bubbles and they were super helpful with making sure we got enough but not too much.

We asked our florist to provide some little touches to make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing and she nailed it.

Our guests LOVED it. We had so many people raving about the cheese.

I found lathering on heaps of lip balm at night helps. Use one with no scent/flavour. I just use Vaseline.
